This is one of my BEST finds on here I use it 3-4 times if not more per week. I purchased a bistro top table with 2 swivel chairs and when I want to use it I just pick it up and put it out on the patio table, plug it in and wallah…I have no odor from any cooking in my house. It has never smoked on my I use either avocado oil or canola oil, but the exhaust from any type of cooking smells the house up unless it’s baked goods I am not a fan of the smell after. So, told my hubs that if I could find a table small but high I would keep so I could just pop out on the patio, grill up what I need and then bring it back in. It’s not heavy, it cleans up like a dream. I remove the screen after I cook or grill anything, pop it in a bowl of dawn dish soap and water in the sink let it soak while I eat. I remove the pans I use and place those in my sink with Soap and water as well and it literally has such a nice coating on the baking and grilling surfaces it doesn’t take a lot of time at all to clean, dry and put back together. Some have said to put it in the dishwasher, but to me that’s an extreme waste of electric and water than just hand clean. I got this not only to grill but to save on electricity from the oven. I am in heaven with this thing!!!

I bought this DG551 Ninja XL grill 2nd generation as it was on sale. I like Ninja products as they are really well designed and of high quality.
This comes with a meat thermometer that works with the grill and will let you automatically setup cooking times and temperature based on how you want your steaks done.
I tried some 1.5 to 2 inch filet minion steaks. I wanted it done medium rare. There are 2 settings for medium rare – 3 or 4. The manuals recommended setting thicker steaks to the lower medium rare setting (3).
I brushed the steaks with rice oil that has a smoke point of 480°F. I then sprinkled salt and pepper and some fresh rosemary twigs from my garden.
I set the grill for medium rare at 3 and switched it on. As soon as pre heating was done, the grill squawked and the LCD indicated “put your food in”.
I had one of the steaks pierced with the meat thermometer and as soon as I placed the steaks on the grill and closed it, the grill automatically started.
It displayed the temperature of the steak and the temperature of the grill. There’s also a display showing rare, then medium rare as grilling progressed. It also squawked to let me know when to flip the steaks, with display “flip”.
When it’s done, it says “remove food” and the resting count down begins.
This is all so convenient, there is no guessing!
Of course, the question remains, how were the steaks?
I was amazed when I cut into the steaks, they were perfectly medium rare throughout the cross section!
There was also no smoke generated in the process. So, I would recommend using a high smoke point oil, like the rice oil that I tried.
Wow!
Of course it takes all the fun out of conventional grilling where you have to attend to it and you don’t always get it the way you want it.
Needless to say this grill comes highly recommended. Just perfect!

i had a ninja air fryer before and it was good and effective but i did not like the style of it. i had a george foeman beyond grill (most recently) but…….. i do not think they tested the power cord that came with it. when it worked it worked flawlessly, but i dont think the power cord was properly tested and it caused a lot of cutting in and out of power. sooooo i was in the market for buying a new air fryer/griller and the 1st generation of this product was down in price so i thought i would go back to the ninja. i actually choose a used option of this product and it arrived a couple of days before the suggested date (thumbs up). when i opened the box and examined the items/parts, it all looked brand new or was cleaned extremely well. almost all items were present except for the recipe book. other than that everything looks like it was there. i did a test run with frozen totinos pizza and at 350 degrees/air fry/ @ 8 minutes/on the grill plate the pizza was done to perfection. i mainly will use this for grilling steaks so i will report back after that test. i kinda know how long to flip/cook steaks in an air fryer so i do not need a thermometer, but if i use it i will report on it. my last ninja was well made and i hope this one has the same ninja quality/longevity.
Edit: after cooking several items this ninja cooks a lot hotter and faster than it appears. Like if instructions on frozen pizza says 12 minutes at 370, the ninja will get it done at 8 minutes at 355 degrees. Not complaining, it’s quite powerful.
edit: 30 may 2023. finally cooked a ribeye steak and because it runs a lot hotter than advertise i was a bit worried about my steak. i like my steaks medium rare and knowing it does run hotter than suggest i had my settings on grill/hi/pre heated/8 minutes. i flipped as well as it told me to flip at 4 minute mark (which i did) and it looked very nice, but as the time the timer was going down i was a little worried it would cook too fast i stopped it 30 seconds before the full 8 minutes. steak looks amazing with good grill marks and i let it sit for about 10 minutes before cutting into it. after cutting into i think it was more on the medium side. not complaining but i like to factor in when i reheat it in microwave so i prefer it on medium rare because of that. i know the one i own runs hotter than the suggest recommendations, but i do not use the thermometer so if you use the thermometer then it may come out perfect for you. i stay in front of the grill every second when it comes to steaks so i am aware of the seconds when it comes to steaks so i do not use a thermometer. anyway in summary it still turned out to be a fantastic ribeye steak. also i washed the mesh screen before cooking the steak and i did not have any smoke. this was the first time i cleaned the screen after at least 7 uses of frozen pizza and sweet potato. so if you clean it well then i believe the smoke will be very minimal or non at all.
very happy with my purchase. reserving the 5 star for longevity.
