I recently gave the Hard as Hoof Nail Strengthener a shot, hoping for some serious nail magic. My nails have been on the brittle side, so I was eager to see if this could help. It’s recommended to apply several times a day but because the product is a bit greasy and takes a while to absorb I’ve only been applying once or twice a day.
It feels more like a lotion than anything but definitely leaves my cuticles softer. I personally haven’t noticed much difference in my nails and don’t see myself applying this three times a day as suggested. Applying it was easy enough—just a few swipes over clean nails as directed. The scent is mild and disappears after absorbed which I like.
As much as I wanted to love the Hard as Hoof Nail Strengthener, I prefer something that requires less application. If you’re considering trying this product, keep in mind that this works best when applied three times a day—something I didn’t notice until after receiving.

As an adolescent I was a nail biter and my nails have always been short, dull, brittle, and flaky – even if I take vitamins and supplements. This product has changed my nails completely!! In one month, my nails are thicker, stronger, and not chipping or breaking – even when they have every reason to! I took the “Before” photo on June 26th. That’s about the longest I could get my nails to grow before using Hard as Hoof. My “After” photo was on July 26th. I cannot begin to describe the difference and growth! The even crazier thing is on July 21st, I pulled up a long brick walkway which was brutal on my hands and my nail polish took a beating, but my nails were not damaged! Two days later I put a new walkway back down – again handling rough bricks, but my nails still look fantastic! I use this product as recommended – keeping it by my chair and trying to apply it up to three times a day. I’m a believer! Buy it. Use it. You won’t be disappointed!

All natural, baby – and this is only just a little over a month of progress! In addition to being a bull in a china shop and tearing Amazon packages open with my bare hands like the savage that I am, I am also an artist/musician. I am constantly doing stuff with my hands, and I used to not even have to clip my nails because they would always just bend right off before they could grow. My nails went from stumps that never grew above the skin on my fingertips to this.
I wanted to see if I could grow my nails out for my upcoming wedding. These are my results after using this nail cream every other day for only 1.5 months, maybe less. Well let me tell you, I have actually been clipping and filing them DOWN because the growth is overwhelming and I don’t know how to function as a womany woman with nails quite yet (I never used acrylics, I hate them – in general I have learned I just don’t like having long nails and will probably cut them after my wedding).
One of the reasons I think this product works better for me than the paint-on strengtheners ever did is that naturally I have extremely weak, bendable, soft, thin nails that easily split and flake rather than chip. This is the right product because it doesn’t harden to the point of making them brittle, which is amazing. If you have thin nails like mine, you’re going to need some elasticity and moisture to them because thin nails will simply break when they are too hard. This cream is the only thing to provide that.
My nails, despite still being thin and bendable, are actually a lot stronger than I am used to and I can’t believe I haven’t broken one yet. Not only did it improve my nails, it also eliminated the lifetime of dried skin around my cuticles, especially the little skin nubs that used to be on the sides of my thumbs, which I’d had since I was a kid. It also makes my hands nice and soft/shiny too!
Highly recommend this for you thin bendy nail ladies out there, and those who want to eliminate dried skin around the cuticles. It definitely works when nothing else does, you just have to keep up with it. I honestly question anyone who claims it doesn’t work because it works SO well and so dramatically.

They were brittle, they didn’t appear to grow, they were cracking and some had ridges. One nail in particular was in a very poor state. It has taken more than 2 months of applying this cream meticulously and at last I can say that my nails are strong, healthy and they feel silky. After applying the cream, they look really good. Thankfully the ridges have gone. And the nail that was in a very poor state, is finally growing out and looking good The other comment that I would make is, the appearance of my nails made very little progress in the first four to six weeks. It took until weeks seven to eight to see the improvements. During this time, I also started taking a higher dose of Biotin daily. I was in a cooler climate for the first few weeks, my hands are always cold, and I have poor circulation. When I returned to a warmer climate, this helped my circulation and in turn helped the nail growth and improvements. I would recommend buying this product, but you need to have patience.

I’ve bought this product off and on for years never reviewing it before. Works really well on cuticles and really good for bare nails.
Over the last few years I’ve developed splits in the skin of one thumb. No fingers and not the other thumb and nowhere else. Lotion doesn’t help with this issue. I use another product for it at night, but it is not as effective for me during the day. I accidentally came upon my Hard as Hoof stash recently and started using it on my thumb since nothing else has worked. And just during the course of the day it’s 100% more moisturized and doesn’t hurt anymore. I actually am tearing up now because those splits are painful enough to keep me up at night and no OTC pain killer works. Nothing the Dr or the Dermotologist has recommended has worked. Presently I’ve been up for almost 72 hours now partially because of the four heartbeats in my thumb from the four splits.
Didn’t have such drastic results with my cuticles, but they do look better when I use Hard as Hoof. Cannot recommend enough.

I have kept really good care of my nails since I was a teenager. Using nail conditioners, the whole deal. But then it came for me. All the women in my family, when they hit their mid 30s, nails start to wrinkle, thin, crack and break. My usual nail care wasn’t cutting it. I did lots of research and this had the longest history of good reviews and recommendations as well as evidenced based ingredients (retinol for the win). The breaks and splitting have stopped (if i dont use it for a week my thumb nail will chip/spilt in the same spot every time). It is not a cure all. The wrinkles are not reversing, but I think it’s slowing them down. I don’t use it 3 times a day, unless I have been washing my hands a lot. I find it’s most important to use after a bath. I use it every night before bed. I keep one at my desk at work too. I like the smell. It’s lightly coconut. It’s not oily to me, but maybe my nails are thirsty. Ha. Will buy as long as they keep the formula and the price good. Been using for about 6 months and I have the same jars. Haven’t tired with polished nails yet.
