Denis Capeto –
The content itself is amazing. I returned this because I found it difficult to find the binder with 3 rings. The poor description of the product does not mention how it is. That’s why I am attaching pictures, so that other customers can see and check the measures. In addition, it arrived in poor condition, the cover was a little bit damaged. I really wanted that there was a hard cover version of this book available. I endup buying the global edition, which is better but still fragile and pretty heavy.
Amazon Customer –
Says its printable. Is not printable. Also Kindle is a garbage app.
Kim kwangmin –
Without a doubt, the content of this book is wonderful and informative. Back then, I studied the OS with this book, and bought this book of 10th version again to review the concepts.
However, I just realized that some features in this book are only available in ePub version which is not the version of the ebook here. As a result, I cannot see the answers to the exercises in each chapter and also cannot use other features like animations and so on.
I contacted the Customer Services but they refused to issue a refund as it’s been 9 days since I bought it. They just suggested that I buy the same book of ePub version and read it using another app. This situation is really annoying.
I know that the author mentioned about this, but it should be more properly informed. I never saw the notice when I was purchasing it.

The book is well organized, and it’s a required textbook in my school. Anyway, pretty well-written.
Denis Capeto –
Good book, brand new and received in perfect shape.
Joseph K –
Good book, bit too technical.
christianideas.eu –
I’m reading it. It seems an example to follow in the literature Operating Systems.
Plus points: supplementary documentation available slides summary…
less points: a bit expensive, but maybe legitimate… an example to follow
I could eventually translate it to mother language Portuguese (less spelling faults), but 9th edition is already available… thus, somebody else had already the idea related with publisher entreprise, and is probably presently busy with translation of this edition => it shows it deserved to be translated… congratulations

The book is filled with pages and pages babbling about various ideas in the industry, most of which are not directly related to Operating Systems. It bores you to death. If you want to learn about Operating Systems, this is not the book. Maybe the author should have called it “brief yet boring history of Operating Systems”.
The descriptions are very superficial.
Only buy if you’re a student and your professor forces you to do so. If you, like me, are looking to get your hands dirty with OS, look somewhere else.
Next two books on my list, let’s see if they are any better:
– Modern Operating Systems.
– Operating Systems: Internals and Design Principles
Cherry on top: The print is also bad, as many pages are stuck together.
Dasutoru –
Great book, only the pages are uncolored, and some features are not in the book that are only available in e-text,e-book,ePUB or whatever it is called. You need to read both to get its full potential. Defeats a bit of my purpose to reduce eye strain.
Bryan Reagan –
This textbook, affectionately referred to as “the dinosaur book” has been a perennial favorite in big Computer Science departments for the last 30 years. I learned from it in graduate school at UIC and taught a graduate class using it at SLU.
Jeff –
I’ve upgraded to this text which seems good and has lots of extra material. But the publisher changed and they didn’t print a lot of the paper version for this year
DNAunion –
This is what computer-related books should be like. It is thorough, in depth, information packed, authoritative, and exhaustive. You cannot get this kind of excellent information from the Internet – or many other computer books these days.
I have a degree in CIS but missed out on the OS courses (took different courses instead). So years ago I bought what was at the time the newest edition of this book, and loved it. A few years later I bought an updated version, and now – even more years later – bought the newest version as of today.
It’s a shame that quality computer books are declining so rapidly in number. I hope they continue to update and publish this book for many years to come.
Steven Ramey –
The content of the book is great, but the Kindle version, for being $90 after tax, should be able to be zoomable, but it is not. This makes it hard to read on a phone as I either need to zoom in and then zoom out to turn the page or not zoom in at all.
