OptiWand Portable Soft Contact Lens Removal Tool Description
- OptiWand inserts and removes soft contact lenses but takes practice and patience. Scroll down for instructional videos. Use only as directed.
- This is not a suction cup for soft contact lens removal. It will help to pinch the soft lens. Soft lenses cannot be suctioned out due to their composition.
- Insertion process must be completed quickly to avoid lens sticking to the wand.
- The OptiWand is designed to hold the lens until placed on cornea during insertion. Look at center hole colored wand or contact lens to align the lens properly. When the lens touches the eye, twist the wand slightly to release the lens from wand.
- The OptiWand functions much different than fingers and the same mistakes are made by nearly all users. It is not a suction cup for soft lens removal.

I recently got a new brand (PrecisionOne) of soft lenses which are difficult to remove with my fingers. I purchased this product in hopes it would make removing my contacts easier. Unfortunately, after multiple tries (doing exactly what the instruction stated), I was unable to remove my soft lenses using this tool. Since this tool didn’t work, I thought to get a refund but unfortunately this item is non-refundable/returnable through amazon (which sort of makes sense). So $15 down the drain, but it is what it is.

I was a little sceptical about this product or ones similar to it. I didnโt know if it would work, especially with my daily contacts.
Getting the contact on the cup is the hardest part, but once I get it on there, using it to insert the lens onto my eye is so simple! It does it so much faster than when I use my finger. But wait, thereโs more! Using it to take out my contacts is just as easy and it feels better than using my fingers to pinch the lens out. Use exactly as described, put the cup against the contact in your eye and gently pinch the cup to remove the contact. I normally pinch with my fingers and using this thingy feels so much better (and safer).
Iโm storing this inside an empty prescription pill bottle. Iโm considering soaking it in lens solution between uses but Iโm not sure if that wounds degrade the material making it unsafe. Iโll figure that out eventually.

I was super excited for these to arrive. Iโm a new contact user and Iโve been having difficulties inserting and removing my contacts. I had high hopes that these would help me. I was sadly mistaken. Iโve used these about 5 times and have given up on them all together. The ends are too flimsy and from my experience my contacts come off the applicator when inserting and when trying to remove my contacts the ends were too flimsy to get a good grasp on the contact to take out. It caused more headaches and frustration and I ended up staying with the old style of finger insertion and removal.

I am new to contact lenses. No matter what I did I could not get the lens to transfer from my finger to my eye. The lens would turn inside out and stick to my finger every time. This tool is just what i needed. Set the lens on it touch the contact lens to your eye and twist the tool back and forth a couple of times and your done. Works every time for me and I am happy. removal is even easier. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!

The Opti-Wand contact lens installer/remover did not work for me. I have no trouble inserting my Dailies 1 soft contacts by Alcon manually. However, these lens have such a perfect curvature to match my cornea that itโs very difficult to break the seal necessary to get them out. The snazzy video and (some positive) Amazon comments led me to order this product. After giving them a good workout and trying to get the necessary technic down I must conclude they won’t pinch as described.
I use the small end of the Wand with the cut-outs as instructed. The idea is not to use the Wand as a suction cup. Rather it is intended to slightly pinch the lens so that air can get between the lens and the cornea allowing one to lift to be lifted out and away from the eye. Sounds good in theory. The problem with this is that they do not grip the lens allowing one to pinch; they simply slide across the lens. As a test I placed one contact on the tip of my index finger using it to mimic my cornea. But again, they only slide and do not pinch the lens as required. I have tried this with the lens slightly wet with storing solution and with the lens dry. Nothing works. Iโve tried the Wand with other brands of soft lens. They were ineffective here as well. Perhaps others have had more luck. But not me. Quite expensive for something like this even if it did work. I canโt recommend this product.

i recently found out i have very dry eyes which is why i’ve struggled with contacts so much, esp since the lens likes to stick to my finger. i found that when following the instructions (and using both contact solution on my lenses and lubricating eye drops on my eyes) this made getting my lenses in super easy in both eyes. i got it on the first try even.
however, while taking out my dominant eye’s contact lens with this was made easy, i couldn’t quite get my non dominant eye’s lens out because it’s hard to keep looking through the little hole of the tool with that eye.
still, i’d say that the amount of time and effort saved overall made this worth the purchase; i’d just keep in mind that if you’re struggling getting them in with it, you might need lubricating eye drops too.

It has a learning curve, but it works well for those who are afraid of getting their nails in their eyes.

It’s been a learning experience, but much easier than my fingers. I have deep set eyes and most instructional videos only show these huge eyes with easy access to pulling away upper and lower eye lashes. My upper eyelashes don’t allow me to do as in these videos and this tool has been very helpful. I’m in week two of using the Optiwand and use it for both inserting and removing lenses. It’s still a work in progress, but I continue to tweak. Had both lenses in and out yesterday in 15 minutes. I bought a magnifying mirror and this has been very helpful too. It blows up my eye image with it’s magnification by moving face as close or near for optimal clarity while inserting. Removing lenses is a snap, still refining the insertion part. My right eye takes less than 2 minutes, but left eye 5 minutes.
