I was very skeptical about this since I have tried MANY different things to keep ants at bay on my feeders. I bought this at the recommendation of the Birdwatching HQ website and I am so grateful I did. I got a smart hummingbird feeder and was excited to see photos and videos of hummingbirds close up, but the ants quickly took over…again. About one day after installing this, there were no more ants. ZERO. And several weeks on, there are still ZERO ants. I have struggled with various solutions to the ant problem, and I think I have found the fix. Just hang it in line with the feeder and that is it. I like that it is no mess, and does not need attention. It seems to be very effective. I have not seen any ants this year, and I am attributing it to the ant guard and not just coincidence that the ants have not found the feeders this summer.

This works perfect for keeping the ants out of my hummingbird food. I was having to change my hummingbird food sometimes two times a day and poor little birds would come up to the window and just telling me something was wrong and it’ll be asked all over their food but I haven’t had not one problem all summer long since I bought these! I love these and I will have them from now on for my hummingbirds just imagine how big an ant is or to a little tiny hummingbird, may not seen that big but whenever there’s dozens of them, they are. On top of being super efficient I couldn’t get over how little it cost. So that was a double bonus and easy to use too!

The only reason this is getting 4 stars instead of 5 is because the size of the top hook. I can’t even get it over my pinky finger, much less a tree branch or Shepards Hook. I used a piece a wire to make a loop to attach the device to my Shepards Hook and it worked perfectly. No water to refill. No scent. Worth it to keep the ants out of my Oriole and hummingbird feeders.

I bought several of these after everything I tried to keep pesky ants from my getting into my hummingbird feeders failed. Typically there would be several inches of dead ants floating on top of the nectar. But after hanging feeders from these… not been a single dead ant!
