If you want Santa Clause or a Christmas elf hanging from your feeder in the summer then this “gnome” is the feeder for you. It definitely looks like Santa or Santa’s elf!!! The feeder is sturdy and large (6”x6”x12.5”) and holds 2 lbs. of seed, with big openings for sunflower seeds. It isn’t suitable for smaller seeds as they’ll fall from the big openings. If you want medium to large birds to be able to cling to the feeder and eat, you should keep it filled closer to the top to give the birds enough space to be able to comfortably cling and still reach sunflower seeds. Also, you’d want there to be enough birds around to consume the large volume of sunflower seeds timely enough, so it might be better if you have a yard where lots of birds visit. The item is painted well. The hanger is a hook attached to a chain. Because of the shape of the body beneath it, the red pointed cap of this feeder provides only a small amount of cover for the seeds during rain.
Note that 27 of the 28 reviews available (8/15/19) are Vine customers (who received a free product to review). To me this makes those high reviews a little suspect, not because Vine customer reviews are suspect, but because there is, as of now, only one different purchaser with a review of the product!!!!!

It’s impossible to clean. There is no way to access the inside and clean it! Parts started to fall off.

This is just the cutest thing! It was a present for my mom and aunt who are both bird lovers. The birds love it. Well, some of them do. The birds that we thought we were buying for, will not get on it and eat from it; instead, they bounce all over the ground picking up the seeds that are dropping through the mesh when other birds are on the mesh. The seed we have goes right through the mesh (it’s larger than your typical bird feeder mesh). It does hold larger seeds – sunflower. We’ve poured the seed in, and it stays in (mostly) until larger birds begin to swing on it and then the smaller seeds go to the ground. It is very sturdy and it is very cute. All in all, it’s fine with larger seed. I’m glad we got it.

I had another somewhat similar type bird feeder previous to purchasing this one that squirrels had destroyed when they attempted to “unlock” the door to get the seeds out and breaking off the hinge. This new one has a hat that’s easy to unscrew to refill it but the squirrels have not been able to figure out how to get the hat off so now they cannot steel the seeds inside.

We bought this for the MIL for a Christmas gift (she loves gnomes). It took a while for the birds to get used to it, but they figured it out. However, the squirrels also figured it out… so maybe take some precautions there.
