PETMAKER Cozy Cave Enclosed Cube Pet Bed

Bed has a vinyl outside. Nice wide opening. VERY thin “pillow” for inside but better than none. I bought this for my wild possum who lives on my covered porch. We live in the middle of the forest. This possum found us as a baby. We fed her and she decided she wanted to be safe around us. She is very friendly. Glad we found this covered bed for her as it is starting to get cold (42 degrees right now). Great price. She still lives as a wild animal but can safely be around our home. We have noticed zero bugs or pests as she eats them. Possums are immune to poisonous snakes and she is keeping them away. My guess is she eats any she finds.

Several years ago I bought a plush cat cube and my cats, in their old age, are now fighting over it, so when I saw the Petmaker soft indoor enclosed covered cavern, I immediately purchased it. However, once it arrived, I quickly discovered that it doesn’t live up to the description. There are a couple of good things about it, so I will share those as well.

Pros:
– Collapsible construction (also a con) means that if cats are jumping around on it instead of sleeping inside, it will be able to pop back up without damage.
– Removable cushion. It’s nice to have this removable for cleaning purposes.

Cons:
– Collapsible construction means that they sent this folded down and vacuum sealed, so if you keep it, it could take weeks to fully pop open. If you have a suspicious cat like I do, then that’s going to make for a waste of cat house. Even after adding the removable cushion, this cat house could not make a standup square. The collapsible mailing protocol has pretty much rendered this cat house unable to stand of its own accord. There are what are probably permanent creases in the side walls.
– Description is misleading. The product description reads “plush foam walls.” In reality, the walls are pretty thin and the inside of this cat cube is lined with black scratchy support fabric, so there’s unfortunately nothing plush about it. This is further a problem because the description talks about the “velvety material” which is on the outside and the top of the removable cushion only. This is very misleading. Based on these things, I expected the inside to be lined with the same material.
– Inside construction is very messy. There’s no plush liner or velvety material inside, just the black construction material, and every seam is open and accessible. Cats that love to chew on things they’re not supposed to with have ease of access to the seam strings and to the edges of the black construction material. This was again misleading on the part of the description. I’m also concerned about the significant presence of the black material because the product description never mentions the makeup of this material, only the grey material. So much emphasis on the outside of the cat cave, but in face, the cats will be inside it, so that part matters so much more.
– The “plush foam walls” are not really plush. The walls are extremely thin, which also contributes to their inability to come back after being vacuum sealed and creased.

Overall, this is just not the product I expected to receive and I’m incredibly disappointed in it. I will be sending it back.

2 out of our 3 cats already tried it within the first few minutes of me setting it up. They seem to like it, which is the important part.

It’s a little flimsy. The bottom is a single layer of fabric. I accidentally cut it while opening the box, but it was easy to sew. The sides and top are flexible foam, but are kind of squished. I am hoping they will unfold more after being out of the package. The pillow inside is super fluffy.

It is rather small. My 4 pound kitten fits fine. My 11lb adult cat fit inside, but pushed it halfway over while turning around.

Not sure about the overall durability. The insides are the same papery fabric as the bottom so I don’t think it will last with 3 cats.

In all, for an inexpensive cat house, you get what you pay for.

Inexpensive option for outside/feral cats to sleep in, inside my garage..

This is a lovely, plush, well-made product. It is smaller than I anticipated, but it is fine for a kitten or smaller adult cat. I’m very happy with it.
