We have gotten this item a few times and loved how easy it had made our lives along with our dog. We trained him on it as soon as we got him as a puppy. He took to it pretty easily. He is now 3 years old and problems have now started. We recently bought a new Pet Loo as our last one has gotten old and hard to clean. After opening the box, I noticed right away that the grass pad looks and feels different. The other ones had softer fake grass that did not make much noise when our dog walked on it. The ‘new’ grass pad is hard and sounds crunchy when touched. It is not soft at all and does not mimic grass as the product claims. Did the company decide to go with cheaper fake grass? My dog now refuses to go onto the pad. He prefers to pee on the floor then on this and looks so upset afterwards. I plan to call the company to complain about this and in the meantime will be looking for another product.

After trying three options for my puppy, this is the one we’re settling with.
Option 1: Another similar set-up with artificial turf and a collection tray at the bottom. The turf was cheap, pieces of “grass” would fall out everyday, and I would have to collect them all because I was worried my pup would eat them. The tray was also too shallow so it didn’t drain urine as well. The liquids would just sit in the mat. The long strands of “grass” weren’t conducive to easy poop pick-up either. Imagine cleaning fudge off individual pieces of hair. Pups have occasional wet poo, it’s a fact of life. No bueno for me; bad design all over. I threw it out after two weeks. That was $75 down the drain.
Option 2: Real grass. The subscription where they send you a patch of fresh grass depending how often you wanted to change it. It was $40 a pop, and I originally set it up for once every four weeks, thinking that should do it. My mistake. First patch died and became disgusting after one week. Thought it was my own issue with upkeep, so I ordered another patch. Same issue. It becomes nuclear — to the point where my pup poops/pees around it, not wanting to step foot in it. It soaks up the waste and the water (no matter how little you sprinkle) and becomes a nasty swamp. The cardboard becomes heavy and soggy with grossness. $40/a week is not sustainable for my wallet. It’s nice for the first few days, that’s it. Also: the flies. The vulturous swarm of flies this attracts.
Option 3: This product. The turf quality is much better than option 1. It’s sown in much more securely, and the individual strands are dense and all short/levelled off. This makes wet poop much easier to wipe away (no clingy to long strands). The platform is also angled steeper, so liquids drain quickly into the tray underneath. The tray is deep enough to hold cat litter for easy disposal. It comes with a trial powder that solidifies liquids into a jello — which is neat but a bit gimmicky when I can just buy cat litter for cheap in bulk. The turf mat has clips to hold it down on all four corners — very practical when your pup has the zoomies and flies up and down everything.
Context: I have a 3.5 month beagle pup. Not a large breed, not a particularly “gentle” breed, but not the most demanding. Might give you some baseline to evaluate for your own situation.

I have 3 chihuahuas (2 boys and 1 girl) and I live in a condominium. Prior to the Pet Loo, they were trained to use potty pads while I’m out. This was fine when i had one chihuahua but as I added my other 2 kids, buying the pads became costly. Also, when they use the pads, they get their feet wet or the wee will flow out of the pad on to the bathroom floor. So my fiancee and I looked for an alternative and found this.
I let the dogs inspect the product first then put them on the grass. Then, I took one of the soiled pee pads and rubbed it on the grass. I then removed all the pads and placed the Pet Loo where the pads where. I put the dogs on the grass again one by one making sure they smell the pee that I rubbed on it. By the end of the day, they were using the pad to pee. It took them a 3-4 days more to figure out it was safe to poop on it too. I was so proud and happy because they love it. oh and the boys will pee on it too even if they’re used to lifting their leg, they do a combination of squatting and lifting their leg.
PROS:
1. Unlike the other products like the Pet Loo, the plastic foundation is very strong. we travel with it often. it’s not flimsy at all and can support the weight of a large dog.
2. It’s easy to clean. other products don’t have the drainage system that the pet loo has (the cabinet you can remove that contains the wee)
3. It decreases the smell. when using puppy pads, pee is left out in the open and it smells really bad if you don’t get to it right away.
4. The dogs don’t get their paws wet. since the wee is drained, their feet aren’t soaked in it.
5. My dogs found it a no-brainer. they understood what it was, they frequently go on grass so they got it right away. just train them and praise them. don’t give up!
6. It’s an investment. I don’t have to rely on buying pads!
7. Lessens wastage. I don’t have to throw away the pads (because I’m not using them) and it lessens garbage (as well as the smell of the garbage)
CONS:
1. You have to buy a separate synthetic grass pad. You must wash the grass and it’s helpful to have an extra one to put there while you’re drying out the other. BUT this isn’t the only reason. the Grass that comes with this order is of poor quality. it just feels like plastic (from thin plastic bags). the separate grass i got from this how ever was nicer and stronger
2. when you first buy it or clean it, the grass will shed quite frequently. I’ve had it for a while and there’s no bald patches but for the first few times, you’ll have strands of green plastic falling off
Overall, we are very happy with this product and wish we had it a long time ago. 🙂

We had a real problem with our 65 pound 1-year-old redbone coonhound going in the same place in the house. Both #1 & #2. Yuck!
I went on to the old trusty Amazon and began looking at what is available reading many of the reviews… There are several choices in as many price ranges out there. It seems like each has its believers and naysayers. So what to do?
So don’t laugh too hard but I thought hmmm if I were a dog what would I want?
This product offered it all. With a 65 pound dog, I wanted a solid surface that would not shift under him causing him to jump off and never go on it again, grass just like outside, large size so he could comfortably stand on it and easy cleanup. That’s what I wanted and that’s what I received. It’s very pricey BUT… the alternative is not acceptable right?
My theory is to buy the best and if it does not do as described send it back without any hesitation or guilt.
When I received it, it was just as ordered. Very easy to setup.
Not trying to be gross but this is what I did. I sat the box right next to where he goes in the house. He went there again, right next to the box. I grabbed some paper towels, held him there with me, soaked up the urine and put the paper towels on the grass of the new box, right in the center of the box. I then grabbed him by the collar and drug him onto the box. I then removed the paper towels. I kid you not, he then sniffed the spot where the towels were and urinated on that very spot. The true test was what would happen next time, would he go to the box? He did. In the beginning, he would only urinate there but now does #1 & #2. I praise him and give him a biscuit each and every time he goes there. Have there been accidents? Yes, but far and few between.
I could not be happier with this product.
Not a negative but the clips do not work. They were off almost immediately and he would carry them around. It doesn’t matter for my guy as he doesn’t get up there and scratch around or do that turning in circles thing, he jumps up, goes and is off.
This product works and is worth every penny. Don’t hesitate.
