PH Prevue Hendryx Square Top Parakeet Cage, Black

I use this cage for my two parakeets and I have to say it’s almost perfect! The bar spacing is the right size and I haven’t noticed any bad spots in the paint. The bottom grate had a piece that was slightly bent but it was easily put into place with some pliers. The pan at the bottom slides out vert smoothly and fits into the tray well. I was worried about the door but it’s very large and nice. There’s a smaller slide up door on the bigger door that is more secure. The food trays are nice and easy to clean. The bars run vertical which I was a little concerned about but my birds have learned how to climb on them easily. My birds absolutely love their cage and I feel very safe leaving them in the cage. The instructions were very easy to understand and everything was very clean and nice when it arrived. I’m very satisfied with my purchase.

This cage doesn’t come with a pull-out tray, which I knew, and thought would be ok, for one small bird. However, the put-together cage is very flimsy, and lifting it out of the bottom tray causes it to fold in on itself and the perches to fall out as well. It doesn’t come with any kind of clip to connect the top part of the cage to the back of the cage, which I can’t understand, because it does have connections for the front and the sides. But in the back you’re left to resort to wire ties, or something like that. There are handles only on each side. The front door is not very secure. Just don’t buy this cage if you want to keep your bird safe and its habitat clean. I was going to put it out on the curb but ended up just binning it because i didn’t want to be responsible for someone thinking it might be a good idea. Wish I’d done it long ago.

Cage is actually huge – I know the measurements are given, but trust me, you will see that this is much larger than expected, which is actually a good thing. Assembly is easy and cage is very sturdy once put together.
I would have given five stars except that they do not seem to have very good quality control. One of the bars above the front door had the weld popped off and was painted that way so was present when cages was first put together. I was able to super glue it, but it should never have shipped like this. An additional problem is that the hinges for the large front door were made so tight (the wire ‘hinges’ are just wrapped around the upright wire of the cage) that as soon as you open the door the white enamel paint is completely stripped off of the upright wire. This is going to expose it to rust and future failure if not carfeully monitored and kept slightly oiled. I was not going to go through the hassel of trying to send it back for just these two issues, but the issues should never have been there if the manufacturer had proper QA in place.
Despite these problems, it is still a very good cage with more than enough room for a couple of smaller birds. A cockatiel would also be happy in this cage, but would need time outside of the cage for proper exercise.

Excellent product. This was the best sized cage I could find for my budgies. Other table top cages are narrow and tall, making half the cage unusable. If you need to be able to move your cage, or can’t fit a heavy cage on wheels in your space, this is bigger than you would think, going by the pictures. There is room for toys and perch variety, the big door is practical, ( no frustration in reaching any part of the interior ), and the bars are narrow enough for small birds. I bought this to replace my 28 year old cage, It was sturdier with horizontal bars and a stand but rusting, and had to return 2 badly designed cages before I found this one! One of them was difficult to clean and just too small. The other was tall and pretty, but it’s narrow width made it inpractical, the plastic base was so thin for the heavy cage I was afraid to lift it, and the food cup doors were so close to the base they were unuseable ( even the cups that came with didn’t fit ). The square top cage was just what I was looking for and my budgies and I are both happy.

The size and shape is what we wanted. We were excited for this starter cage for our new bird coming in December. We bought as the “used but like new”, and it stated that the only reason for the used description was that the box was damaged. The box wasn’t too damaged. However, upon opening it, the base of the cage is a very cheap plastic, easy to break and had a chunk off of one of the back corners as well as a big crack. We were able to super glue it, no big deal since this is the back of the cage. The bird should never come into contact with it ever.

Then the 2 dishes, both were cracked. The toppers to them were shoved into the bottom piece making it nearly impossible to separate the 2 without breaking it. They were too broken to consider using.

All in all, super cheap plastic pieces were used. Again, this is a starter cage while pur little guy grows some and we are ready to splurge on a larger cage. If buy new, go for a slightly more expensive and better cage.

This cage in white is replacing an older purple one by Prevue. It seemed time to upgrade. I think it’s great so far, easy to assemble, clean rearrange things, a little heavy but sturdy and has two side handles as well.

in front. They also have a separate PlayStation they can go forage on but this is their castle.
