William V. Derr –
I am an elementary band director and I do professional oboe/woodwind/keyboard gigs on the side. I’ve had great experience with ProTec products, so when I decided to retire the original, worn-out double case for my oboe and English horn, this was an easy choice. This case is sturdy, well made, much softer where it cradles the instruments than my original Loree cases, and fits my Loree oboe and English horn perfectly. It also has a generous gusseted storage pocket on the outside.
Only three things would make me happier. First, I wish there were a slot for two reed cases instead of one. My original double case had a slot for an oboe reed case and an English horn reed case. Now I can only fit one inside the case, and it doesn’t seem to be for lack of room. Second, I wish there was a pocket for storing music. Finally, I wish they made a case for English horn only. I’ve been contemplating switching to a single case, but most English horn cases are prohibitively expensive for my budget.

My biggest problem with this case is the design. Be not mistaken, the case stores the instruments well and holds a lot in the extra pockets, however: I am not comfortable with the way the instruments are arranged. The low b key on the english horn rests on the oboe bell, so i have to keep a cloth between. There is also a lot of wasted space in the case where there could be more storage for reeds/swabs, etc. The instruments are also a tad loose, and the internal material is not as soft as it looks, making me wonder about the ultimate safety of the keywork, etc. The single front pouch also causes the case to fall over when it is on the ground. I gave it 2 stars because it is very heavy duty (and heavy) and not likely to fall apart but it is frustrating in design and practicality. Happy playing!

This is an amazing product, especially considering that the French version of this type of case can be 4-5 times more expensive.
The outer shell of this case is hard, but the entire case is relatively light. The inside is filled with plush blue fabric that cradles the oboe and cor Anglais. I play a Loree oboe and a Howarth CA, and both fit beautifully in the case. The fit is snug, but not tight, and there is plenty of room for accessories and music in the outside pocket.
I couldn’t imagine buying anything else for my instruments!

I liked this product very much – is well made and the finish is good and I really think it would protect your instrument well. However in my case, whilst I will use it, I have a problem in that my English Horn is an old one and the bell hoint is a little longer to accomodate the B natural hole and pad. This means that the barrel that leads to the onion bulb on the end is longer than on a more modern instrument and it just will not fit the case properly. It would have been good if the underlying protection foam was more like the “memory” foam that is now being used in a lot of applications besides bedding. It could then mold better around the instrument and therefore allow a little more flexibility. That aside, its a great case. Buying through Amazon was a great experience as always

I have a Loree Oboe and Cabart English Horn. The Oboe fits perfect. The EH needed a little doctoring to get the case to fit correct. I had to burrow in at one spot for one of the pegs to sit right. Otherwise, it works perfect.
I LOVE that the case has a strap to keep the lid from falling open too far. It’s a pretty big case, so that little detail helps. I wish it had room for a music folder in the front pocket but otherwise, everything is great.

To the review that that said this was a high priced case, you have obviously never tried to purchase an oboe case before! Loree is charging $1000 for an OB/EH double case. Boston Double Reeds has a case for $700. $110 is an AWESOME deal, and while I’ve only been using it for a couple of days, I can already tell it is far superior to the Loree case my instrument came with. For instance, when I open my case, the instruments are actually still held in place! Not half out of their slots like in the Loree case. Plus, the bocal holders actually keep the bocals in place, rather then letting them get everywhere like with Loree. I can’t tell you the number of times I freaked out thinking I left a bocal somewhere, when it turns out it had managed to work itself into the bell of one of my instruments. The only disadvantage is that it is too large to fit into the backpack case cover I already owned.

Love this case and all Protec cases I’ve bought. Materials are great and case is sturdy with a confidence inspiring heft to it. As other reviews have mentioned, the English Horn lower joint pocket is a tad short for some models. My Cabart English horn JUST fits and requires a little bit of maneuvering. Over all, that’s far from a deal breaker and this case is perfect in my mind.
Ashley E. Peterson –
I love this case and the other protec cases. It fits my English Horn and Oboe well. The pocket in front is great for my different accessories and instrument stands. The only thing is that it doesn’t fit a music folder. It would have been so easy to add a pocket for a music folder in this case as it is the right size. I did order the backpack attachment and that has been very nice to have with this case.

Great design and quality. Excellent protection for instruments as are all Protec cases. Required some tweaking of the padding in order to to cradle the Prestini English Horn properly.
Mimimac –
My Loree oboe and Cabart English Horn fit perfectly. The front pocket holds 2 reed cases, water cup, music, reed tools, and my iPad Pro. Much lighter weight and convenient than my 2 individual instrument cases and accessories in a backpack!
