Rubbermaid Extra Large Resin Outdoor Storage Deck Box

I liked that it arrived in a timely fashion. I disliked the fact it didn’t have any hardware to assemble the box.

After a month, I was able to get Rubbermaid to send me hardware. Actually, they sent a whole new deck box. Assembly was easy, I ditched the stupid lid straps to keep the lid from opening too far, as I was using this for bulk deliveries, not deck cushions. So far, it has held up to numerous summer storms with out issues and the packages inside have been kept dry. I did toss a couple of bags of gravel inside to keep the box from being blown away. Other than the initial delievery, the box is serving it’s intended purpose.

Edited again: After 3 months and numerous summer storms, this deck box has stayed dry inside and my packages have been unharmed. I am also using a small snap link (carabiner) to keep the box closed so the wind will not blow it open. I have been very pleased with it so far. This winter will be the real deciding factor.

UPDATE: After Helene, this box has been great. It survived the rain and winds without an issue. And the two bags of gravel kept it in place. There was NO water inside, the little snap link held the lid down during the winds and rain. With all the roads and bridges washed out, it will be a while before it gets used with all the roads and bridges washed out.

I looked at a lot of things on amazon to hold deliveries. I have a covered porch so rain not much of a problem. I don’t sit there, although that wouldn’t be a deal breaker but all of the storage benches didn’t hold enough. Many of the boxes were too long to fit on the porch. I needed something less than 36 inches long but big enough to hold larger boxes or several Amazon Fresh deliveries. That is assuming UPS, FedEx or even Amazon will use this box. I have had problems with stolen packages and have two thieves on security cam. But of course, the authorities do nothing about it but tell you to bring your mail in right away. That’s fine if you’re home but I needed a solution for when I am not. My USPS carrier *will* use the box as we have discussed the theft problem before and I’m not the only one.

The box arrived at11:50 and I had it assembled by 1pm all by myself. Minimal tools needed but I did need a screwdriver and either a socket wrench or an open end wrench. All parts were included (plus one extra screw and I appreciate that.) The directions were clear and it went together easily. While they do recommend two people I put it together alone quite easily. The design and construction seems quite sturdy and adequate to my purpose. While I wouldn’t sit on it I imagine you could as long as you don’t weigh to much. Since this will sit on my porch I also spray painted it to match my house, so construction was actually less than an hour as the remainder of the 70 min. was spent spray painting the top front and both sides.

Once the paint is dry I will be attaching labels to direct USPS, FedEx, UPS and Amazon to place deliveries in the box. I will also be adding labels warning that mail theft is a Federal Felony resulting in up to 5 years in prison and $250,000 fines. Plus a warning that they should smile as they are on security cams. Will it stop them? No. You can never stop them, just slow them down. There is a loop on the front to padlock the lid and box together but it would be easy to cut through the plastic so I don’t consider this a secure solution. It is mostly to get deliveries out of sight and to further warn them about theft, should they be caught. For that purpose, this is perfect.

I plan to put insulation around the sides and top so that if amazon fresh delivers, groceries will be insulated at least somewhat.

Looks good and it went together fairly simple. It does take two people for some parts just to make it quicker. I like the colour and the flat top is great for resting things on.

We aren’t using this for its intended purpose, but instead for a shelter for our tortoise. She loves it. We leave a side open for her to enter/exit – again, it’s not how this is intended to be use but it’s perfect for our application. I put this together with ease alone, it’s very roomy and the material is pretty thick. There is a place where the lid meets the frame that you can lock it with a padlock, carabiner or a bow if that’s your jam. The color is a basic brown and blends in.
