I don’t use this jaw harp often (I have quite a large collection at this point), but sometimes I’m looking for a specific sound and this one is it. Bright and clear, not too much twang or rumble.

This instrument shows not only great craftsmanship but also very nice aesthetics/art work. The cases are also very nicely done and are perfect to store the instrument safely (especially when traveling).
This is the largest one of their lineup I have seen so far and seems to be a little more difficult to play. I am not a jaw harp expert by any means though but this instrument does sound really good and motivates me to learn how to play it properly and well. Very nice instrument and well made.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

I’m thrilled to share my experience with the Shamanicshop Jewish Harp, also known as a Maultrommel in Germany, where I’m from. This instrument has been on my wishlist for a while, and I’m glad I finally got to try it!

    Pros:

    – Unique and captivating sound quality
    – The mouth harp itself is beautifully crafted with clean, precision-etched metal parts and a polished shine
    – It has a solid build with a bit of weight, improving with frequent use
    – This includes a stunning, hinged wooden case with intricate carvings and adornments
    – Glazyrin’s reputation for producing high-quality instruments is evident in the characteristic sound

    Cons:
(Not necessarily ‘cons’, per se, but buyers new to mouth harps should definitely be aware of these things):

    – Requires proper technique to avoid discomfort or injury (I feel it’s important to watch beginner tutorials before your first try at using this instrument.)
    – There is some initial stiffness with the main sound-producing part, but it improves with continued use.

    Overall:

I’m extremely satisfied with my purchase and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in exploring this unique instrument. The sound is pleasant, and the workmanship is exceptional. With practice, I’m confident in mastering the techniques to fully enjoy this beautiful mouth harp. 5 stars, without a doubt!

The design is neat and I was interested in trying a jaw harp that was different from any other I’d played before. I thought at a price so much more than a traditional one it must be outstanding to play.

I was wrong. No matter how delicately I placed the harp in my mouth and how carefully I tripped the “hammer” the machined tolerances are too tight and it strikes the steel, preventing the vibration that actually makes a jaw harp’s sound. You need to be able to sustain the vibration long enough to form syllable shapes with your tongue and cheeks.

Mine is tuned a bit lower, around 72hz, but it sounds excellent. The tolerance of the tongue and arms is very tight, which can make playing difficult if your plucking is sloppy, but it opens up a lot of possibilities for making more unique sounds and greater dynamics. All edges are ground smooth and polished, leaving no sharp edges or burrs. Despite the care taken to make a smooth instrument, the shape just isn’t particularly comfortable for me to hold for long periods, and it may become very uncomfortable for those with joint/wrist problems. While the protective box may appear to be made of inexpensive plywood, it is beautifully etched and well constructed – it really is a clever design, and it does a good job of protecting the harp.

It’s worth mentioning that the tongue is stiffer than that of the Glazyrin Compass I ordered, which is only 1hz off in tuning and has the same tolerances, and the playing experience is totally different – they both have their positives, and I’m really glad I ordered both as they are suited to different styles of playing despite being so similar.

Overall an excellent jaw harp, and while it may be a bit difficult for new players, it is an excellent choice and in my opinion worth the extra effort to learn good habits and plucking techniques. I never thought such a “simple” instrument would be worth as much as these go for, but I think it’s well worth it. The craftsmanship is top notch, and the musicality is excellent.

I have heard of these, and even seen people play them, but it never crossed my mind, to buy, or attempt to play one. I don’t think I will even become an expert, or anything, but it is a fun attention getter, and I think the instrument, and case has great workmanship. Enough so that, if nothing else, it makes a great accent piece, on the glass shelf of my new entertainment center.

The middle part of the harp hit against the outer pieces making it impossible to create any sound. Also there were sharp slivers of metal hanging on the sides right where you would place your mouth! Luckily I found these first with my hand, not my lip! The case is a beautiful laser cut assembly and the harp etching is pretty but if it doesn’t work. . .

I have a few different Jewish harps, but I find this one is kind of tempermental. You can’t so a lot of pressure tonal changes because the channel for the spring is so narrow. Maybe I’m just not good at it? I have no idea. It’s beautiful and sturdy and the box it comes with is gorgeous. OVerall I love it, but I struggle to play it.
