First and foremost the shipping was fast and tracking was on point. The idea with this tensioner is to line the pully with the rear cog. Don’t worry about your front sprocket having a perfect line. Your chain won’t jump off. All I had to do was reposition my spacers and cog to line up with the tensioner pully. Didn’t even have to use the washers that were provided. About the Alfine tensioner. This is a good quality strong spring tensioner that will hold your chain steady and strong.

Thankyou what a Brilliant bit of kit perfect

The Alfine tensioner was an attractive solution at only $25, but in the end you get what you pay for. The adjustability of this tensioner was so limited, I couldn’t even get it to remotely match my centered chain line. Skip this product and just go with the Surly version. Even a repurposed derailleur would work better.

Pros – Great tension and super easy setup. Price is also reasonable.
Cons – Can only adjust the chain line with washers. Though Shimano has an easy argument: it’s only for the Alfine, duh.
If you’ve got money to blow Paul makes a better tensioner…for almost three times the price, ouch.

shimano = 2 thumbs up

Fit perfectly on my old Diamond Back for converting to a Nuvinci hub. You basically end up with a rear derailer, so if you’re going single speed to get rid of that, this isn’t for you.
It’s nice on the Nuvinci hub, because I could leave the front derailer on with a two speed road crank set, and get more range from the internally geared hub.
It makes chain adjustments easy by just using shims to space it. It set mine to the middle between my upper and lower front gears, and it tracks both with no issues.

Execellent product. Using with ebike on single gear freewheel.

this tensioner it’s not adjustable and can not be used on all bikes specailly ebikes

It works! High quality feeling materials. It is a bit noisier than I had anticipated but might be because I’m not use to having a derailleur at all. Easy install. Reviews had me scared about alignment issues but it provided washers for spacing and ended up working perfectly

This is meant for another type of bike, I think. But I bought it to try on my single speed mountain bike that I converted from a 1×10. It took a bit of trial and error, but I got the position right. Some of the cheap tensioners have a threaded mount for a single jockey wheel and a lock nut. This is OK, as you have infinite possibilities for side to side position. But they can loosen, and then you drop the chain. This one is fixed, but you can adjust it a bit with spacers. This seems to be much more stable. It does require some trial and error with your cog and spacers on the freehub body versus the spacers on the tensioner. But once you find the sweet spot, it is locked in.
This is metal, not plastic like many. It has a solid build and is quite durable. It is not the easy solution for a single speed build, but it is the beast way to go.

Worked as advertised when installing a Nexus Internally Geared Hub. According to Shimano it also works with their Alfine line of IGH’s. Installation is as strait forward as it gets. The 3 washers of varying widths included for setting depth on the Hangar were a big plus. Needed all 3 for setting up on a 135mm “O.L.D.”(Over-Lock-nut Distance) Hub. Used a new Derailleur hanger as well since the stock one I had on hand was beat up and bent enough to affect the chain alignment. If you get this Tensioner and have trouble with alignment triple check that your hanger isn’t bent. It should hang perfectly perpendicular to your drive side chain stay.

Doesn’t work with small sprockets
