Sony FE 50mm F1.8 Lens Description

The Sony FE 50mm F1.8 Standard Lens (model SEL50F18F/2) is a remarkable addition to Sony’s lineup of high-quality lenses designed for full-frame e-mount cameras. This lens is celebrated for its large F1.8 maximum aperture, which offers photographers the ability to create stunning defocusing effects and beautiful bokeh, making it an excellent choice for portrait photography, low-light situations, and artistic shots.

Key Features

  • Large F1.8 Maximum Aperture: The wide aperture allows for significant light intake, enabling detailed and vibrant images even in low-light conditions. Photographers can achieve a shallow depth of field, isolating the subject from the background with a pleasing defocused effect.
  • 7-blade Circular Aperture: This feature contributes to the lens’s ability to produce smooth, circular bokeh, enhancing the aesthetic quality of the out-of-focus areas in an image.
  • Compact and Lightweight Design: Weighing just 6.6 ounces and measuring 4.09 x 3.4 x 4.69 inches, the lens is highly portable. It’s an ideal companion for photographers who are always on the move and prefer a lightweight kit.
  • Aspherical Element: The inclusion of an aspherical element helps control spherical aberration and coma, ensuring sharp and clear image quality across the frame.
  • Double-gauss Configuration: This design helps suppress field curvature and distortion, providing a more accurate representation of the scene with minimal optical imperfections.

Every professional photographer has a 50mm lens, which are used for portraiture. They call them a nifty fifty. I don’t go that far, but they have a unique property where they can have a depth of field that keeps the subject in focus, but blurs things behind it. It can give you a nice effect that eliminates distractions and makes you focus on what’s important.

The wide aperture provides beautiful bokeh and low-light performance, while the compact design makes it easy to carry with you. The lens is compatible with Sony E-mount cameras, and provides sharp and detailed images that are sure to impress. I highly recommend the Sony Fe 50mm F1.8 Lens for anyone looking for a high-quality and versatile lens that can help them take stunning photos.

For what it is, it’s a good lens that fast and sharp. It produces good quality images while being at an affordable price.

The biggest issue has to be it’s autofocus capabilities. It is slow and the motors are loud. If you want to take images of fast-moving subjects, I would suggest looking at other lenses but if your work is heavily centered on portraits and you’re on a budget, you should consider buying this lens.

I got this lens thinking I would use it occasionally for some night shots, and some portraits. I didn’t think I would get as much use out of it as I do.While it is true that the autofocus is slower than my other sony lens, and it’s somewhat audible, it is sharp, when you’re using it

The auto focus is sluggish and noisy, but for the price one can’t really complain. The OSS works well. I got great photos out of it.

Everyone needs this lens in their kit. It the cheapest great quality prime lens Sony has ever released in my opinion. Photos always come out looking crisp and clear with that classic bokeh look. The auto focus is fast and accurate. The lens is compact and lightweight. The one drawback is it is a bit noisy when focusing. A small price to pay for the quality of the stills. This may be the niftiest fifty i’ve ever owned!

I purchased this for my girlfriend to use with her Sony a7 ii. The image quality is fantastic, including great autofocus, night lighting, and bokeh. It’s incredible how well it works given the price point. This lens is great and I highly recommend it!
