Sterilite 12 Qt Swing-Top Wastebasket

I’m not sure why medium sized white lidded trash cans are so hard to come by these days! I could only find large kitchen types, teeny 1 gallons, or everything in chrome or silver. I was so happy to stumble upon these and enough to order for all the bathrooms and rooms.

They came well packaged, stacked in a big box within a box. No damage to any of them. The 6 pack ends up a great price at around $6 per can – a steal! Comparable metal or silver colored cans of this size with a lid are in the $30 range.

12 quarts or 3 gallon, which is a nice size for bedroom or bathroom, doesn’t need to be emptied every other day like some of the teeny lidded cans. The swinging lid part is securely attached with long hinges, not easily removed. We’ve been using all 6 for a few weeks and only one has managed to become unhinged when a pet got into the trash. It was easily snapped back on without harm and no pieces broke.

They recommend the 4 gallon bag, which I found at Walmart. Little unscented plain bags for under $2 per box – works and fits perfectly. Your standard grocery plastic bag is a bit too small for these cans, you could use them, but they’ll be shallow, as the can is a bit tall, which would require more frequent emptying.

My one drawback would be that the lid just rests on the base with a large overlapping lip. I would prefer a little more of a snap or secure closure, personally. We have pets that like to get into the trash, and a tighter lid would help deter them more. If these cans are knocked over or nudged a bit that is enough for the lid to fall off.

Just as expected

I had just bought a house and needed some garbage cans for the rooms. The house is 1600 square feet and I’m living in it alone. I don’t need a larger garbage can for most of the rooms. I have one in my home office, one in my bedroom, one in the bathroom, and one in the living room. Another is in the master bedroom that I’m currently doing renovations in. I empty them all into the kitchen garbage which is a different, larger can that uses a kitchen size garbage bag. I have Amazon’s small 3 gallon rectangular garbage cans that I use for recyclables, which on that same garbage day I empty into another kitchen size garbage bag. As a single guy, that’s all the garbage I manage to make on a weekly basis. These small garbage cans work perfect for me; they look cute, and they are practical, saving me from running to the kitchen to toss my trash every time I need a garbage can!
