SUNALLY Window Bird Feeder With Strong Suction Cups

I usually only write cautionary type reviews to give my fellow online shoppers warnings about products I had problems with, but I enjoyed this feeder so much that I decided write a positive review to help those that are on the fence about buying it to give it a chance.

First, I particularly like this design where the birds perch along the outer edge and stick their heads in to eat. It gives you a great frontal view of the bird and their backside does the business outside the feeder and not on the food. I saw one of the more expensive feeders actually list that as a negative for this feeder, really?

The viewing area is a nice large rectangle that gives a great unobstructed view of both the birds that are feeding as well as through the window the feeder is attached to. The four suction cups do a great job of holding the feeder up as long as you take the time to clean the window surface thoroughly before mounting. I also used a tip I found online that if you add a small dab of olive oil to the suction cups, it will increase their hold. I use this trick with all suction cup holders, especially in the bathroom and it works great. One suction cup is capable of holding the entire feeder up, so as long as you check periodically that all four cups are gripping, the feeder shouldn’t come crashing down. I had a squirrel jump from the deck next door onto the feeder from almost 10 feet away and not break or knock feeder down. In fact, all four suction cups held firmly. However, the squirrel did knock seeds all over the place and made off with a few peanuts.

The rectangular shape of this feeder also makes it ideal for stacking. I actually purchased two of them and placed them side by side (before the squirrel strike) and then I had to rearrange them with one mounted below the other, doubling the amount of birds that can feed. The other great thing about the smaller profile of this feeder is that larger birds find it a bit more difficult to land and get inside, so they will usually leave this feeder alone if there is food that is more accessible to them. That gives the smaller birds with their own area to eat in peace. (Those pesky European Starlings) The Mourning Doves have figured out how to get inside the feeder and Blue Jays have no problem grabbing peanuts out of the feeder as well.

I’ve only had the feeder a short time, so I don’t know how well it will hold up during storms or long term out in the sun, but if my experience changes for the worse, I will make sure to adjust my rating accordingly. But at this price point I am really happy and will give it 5 stars.

This bird feeder is so cute and fun! It’s sturdy clear plastic, seems durable but is still lightweight. The suction cups stick nicely if you wet them a little bit before sticking to the window. The feeder doesn’t hold a lot of seed (maybe a cup or so?, but it’s a good opportunity to keep it really clean. This was a good value for the cost. So much so that I ordered a second!

I would have given it 5 stars if the water dish was practical. Watching finches or any bird for that matter peck at their food the way they do makes a mess out of the water dish section. So, no water, just seeds in it’s place. No muss no fuss.

I placed the feeder on the window with the screen side so we can look through the clear side at the other feeders hanging in the tree. I had bought some opalescent stickers to place on the windows prior to getting the plastic feeder, because they were flying into our reflective window, thinking they’re flying to the tree in its reflection. That seemed to stop that from happening. Then decided if they were to fly toward the window, they might as well get a treat instead. It was only a matter of time before they caught on to it being there. The feeder durable plastic and the four suction cups are quite adequate for holding it on window. I have a birdbath close by for them to swoop down to when they are thirsty.

All in all, I’m happy with this feeder. It gives me the pleasure of an up close and personal view of the beauty of each individual bird that stops by for a snack.

UPDATE: Loved it so much, I bought another one since it was getting crowded, with 5 finches in it at various feeding times. 🙂👍

UPDATE #2: Bought 2 more, which makes 4. Love these window feeders! I’m very fortunate since the window they’re placed on is reflective, so the finches are unable to see movement inside our home, which means we can watch up close. So, even though at first I rated it 4 stars, because of the water dish issue, I’m giving it 5 stars instead, because that just means more food for them. They have full access to water close by.
