I read Riley’s book with gusto and enjoyed it just as I hoped I would. I’ve heard her speak multiple times and was always impressed with her bravery. Riley wrote a beautiful foreward to my book about building confidence in female athletes, so I’ve had a special window into her leadership journey.

When you read Swimming Against the Current, you will be deeply informed on a social problem that is undermining women’s sports. We often say, “Knowledge is power.” That’s not true. “Knowledge shared, and acted upon, is power.” This book helps us move beyond information to action. Let’s rally together to save women’s sports and spaces. Reading Riley’s book is a great place to start.

This is a must read for anyone who wants to protect women’s sport from an author at the cutting edge of the struggle in the USA of how women have been removed from getting their just rewards in the athletic field. Her personal testimony in her swimming career is told with clarity, courage and compassion. Riley Gaines has suffered personal verbal attacks and actual violence for speaking out for simply stating only women should compete with women. Her description of her sense of betrayal when a man entered the women’s changing room and disrobed is a tough read but an essential one if we are to tackle this crucial issue. Thank you, Riley for your witness and your courage.

A serious book about the injustices of confused men thinking they can become a woman simply because they feel like it. Starts by Riley Gaines loosing her place in a swimming meet to a man – wilLIAm Thomas – who is mentally confused and decides that his feelings, rather than factual biology, are a true guide to his actually sex!

I love hearing about the real life consequences caused by political injustices to the ones who deserve the most recognition for their hard work. Riley Gaines book is a great true story and should be read by all.

  6. Paul R. Cosenza

Riley Gaines is fearless in her search for – and communication of – the truth. Of course, as readers will understand, her better description would be “courageous“ – Acting in the face of fear. For Riley has experienced more negativity – and violence then any person should ever face. How a young woman in her early 20s can have formulated such a clear and solid philosophical framework is a testament to her intelligence, strong values, and determination.
This book is about “real feminism“, but it’s target audience isn’t only girls in sports, or girls in general, or women, or those who agree with every word she states. The target audience is every human being who values truth, which is timeless, and not prone to shift with every societal progressive wave.
This is a book for families and friends to read, share, and act upon. For we can’t depend on a few courageous leaders … we all need to “jump in“ and “swim against the current”!

Hopefully it informs/educates some opinions driven solely by feelings and not facts. Loaded with referenced data, it carries a lot of weight. If you believe in facts over feelings, the reality is infuriating. At its base level, women’s sports were created for a reason…because they could not compete fairly against men. Period.

People should take head and listen to the message of Riley Gaines. This behavior based off feelings needs to stop.

As a competitive swimmer, instructor, and most recently, a high school coach, Riley’s was very easily understood along with her position. I’ve been in the GA Tech women’s locker room many times as a coach. As Riley described the upsetting experience of the lady swimmers and herself when Lia was also preparing to swim, I could envision that experience very clearly. I’m with Riley!
