My dog loves every Honest Kitchen I’ve fed her. She itches a lot so I tried the grain free turkey before trying this whole grain turkey. She’s also had the fish. I’ve only had her since October and it’s now July.
I think she may be itching more eating the whole grain turkey than the grain free one, but I know she also needs variety. Maybe the itching is worse because it’s summer. I’m determined not to put her on a steroid medication. So next time, I’ll most likely go back to the dehydrated fish.
She is a shelter dog so I know nothing about her background except that I can see she has been licking the tops of her back feet for sometime. So far, none of the Honest Kitchen dehydrated foods have given her any relief. Maybe her problem isn’t food related. She also gets liquid quercetin and sometimes licorice for itching.
I chose the Honest Kitchen dehydrated foods because there seem to be fewer recalls on them than any other food. She is healthy and her skin is shiny. I do believe it is honestly a good food. And not a kibble!

Highly Recommend to those who need good food that actually fills up your dog without all the byproduct and fillers !! Easy to make and my German Sheppard who has a very sensitive belly loves it and no more stinky breath either!

On cost- even Nutro from Walmart is $3.78 Lb, but since u add this with water, it comes out to be $3 per Lb, plus you’re feeding your dog something HEALTHY, and not just God knows what in hard, dry, boring kibble!! I have a little Toy poodle who prefers to “lick” at his food, and not spend enough time properly chewing anything. This solves both those problems!! I thought it was funny people saying it gives diarrhea, as if anything, we had the opposite experience. I order the Stella & Chewys “Carnivore Crunch”- then break up ONE piece over the top to get him going! lol! The Beef is great, however the Chicken smells a bit too strong of Bananas:( I haven’t tried the other formulas yet. I trust this brand. When I rescued my dog, he was in terrible condition – just really bad health, and I would break up his dog food really small and add the Honest Kitchen beef stew gravy over the top. I saw him go from being at deaths door practically, to being a super healthy, happy dog in no time! His hair, eyes, nails, everything is so much better, all because of the Honest Kitchen. Thank you The Honest Kitchen!🙏🏻🙏🏻

Human grade, so convenient for people wanting the best for their dog, a raw diet that doesn’t have to thaw. Personally, I don’t eat meat very often. I avoid the blood and mess and the garbage can that smell like rotten meat. This product has every bit of the goodness of a raw meat diet just none of the yuk. I weigh out the amount of dehydrated goodness (43.5 chickens in the 10 lb box plus oats, veggies and other good things. Just add enough water to make it the consistency your dog likes. Poops are small and firm. The other great thing is my dog isn’t bugging me for more food. She doing great., full of energy, vitality,. She is almost 7 and people think she’s a puppy. I know it’s because I feed her the best and this product fits the bill

For the past few months I’ve been extensively researching for a better food for my 3 small dogs, one is a schnauzer and the other two, yorkies since the the regular dry store bought kibble hadn’t been doing my little ones any favors, especially in the weight department. After giving up trying to find something better at the big box stores, I figured I’d have better luck on Amazon.

I came across this product while looking at the Sojos brand of freeze dry dog food and figured I’d try this one first since it’s cheaper and would probably be better for weight loss and maintenance.

One thing I always check is the ingredients and the nutrition panel when comparing different brands and flavors. With this particular food, I noticed that the ingredients on the list were fantastic with all of them free of nasty, harmful GMOs, and many of them being organic which is what I feed the human members of my family. Also worth mentioning, the ingredients are also human grade which is very reassuring so you know it’s higher quality and doesn’t contain questionable chemicals or ingredients like euthanized shelter animals (crude protein in many cheap-o brands of dog food, seriously. Look it up, it’s a real and tragic thing folks).

On to the nutrition; If you have a puppy or active dog, this is probably not the best formula, and this company has many to choose from. I would say it’s best suited for the less active mature/senior dogs like mine. That said, since they have been eating this food, they’ve actually had more energy and want to play much more than they used to!

The fat content in this particular food is very low in comparison to most other dog foods, the protein content is mostly from the beef and comes in at a moderate, but healthy percentage for omnivores (which I’m sure you know that dogs are omnis and not carnivores such as cats). Dogs absolutely need protein, however, too much protein can burden the liver. This formula also includes a nice panel of vitamins and minerals added in addition to the naturally occurring nutrients from the food’s wholesome ingredients.

Out of the bag, it’s a super green powdery texture with small pieces of what appears to be fruit, oats and veggies. I have to say the first time I measured it out and examined it, I was concerned, especially when I added the hot water. However, once reconstituted and cooled, the product has a lovely thick texture and smell, which is easy for my dogs to eat and digest.

For the preparation; Super easy! I just use a large Pyrex jug, fill it will purified water, microwave for a couple minutes then add in the correct amount of measured dry food from the package (which is a plastic resealable bag in a snug cardboard box). I let the food sit to fully absorb the liquid and to cool down, then feed to my anxiously waiting fur babies who are ready to gobble every last drop!!

Tip; I personally like to add in some organic Turmeric into the hot water and create a lovely tea base full of antioxidants before adding in the dry mix to add more health promoting benefits. Using hot water creates a much better texture/reconstitution than if you were to add cold or cool water.

The best part besides the fact my dogs love the taste and don’t waste, feeding time is easy, much more controlled since I am using this to help my dogs achieve a healthier weight, and this seems to last a long time. And, since the box is smaller, it is easier to store than a large bag of dry kibble, or many, many cans of moist dog food.

So far the improvements I have seen in all three dogs has been: more energy, weight control/management, better health as per vet checkup since the last. They overall seem to be happier and, as long as this product stays on Amazons subscribe and save program which makes it more cost effective, I’ll continue to purchase because the quality I get from this is far better that’s what seems to be out there, as for right now.

    Hope this helps!

My dog has mega esophagus so she needs ground up food and Honest Kitchen has been my choice for years! Super nutritious and healthy. It’s affordable too. You can add a little cooked chicken cut up in top after mixing for a plus.

Easy to mix & my dogs love it! It seemed like small amount for the price but it expands so very important to use correct water ratio, stir well & let it sit for 3 minutes. My dogs go crazy for it & keep lucking their bowls afterwards. Within fist 2 days I noticed their poop is no longer mushy & healthier now. I am still mixing in some of their old dry kibble for the 7 day transition period. I like that it is “human grade” & quality ingredients. I tried other brands of refrigerated kinds but much prefer this dry mix. This is a good price as it is equivalent to 40 lbs of dry kibble. I highly recommend.

My 13 year-old Poodle loves this and doesn’t need encouragement to eat this. She has always loved kibbles but she could not digest them well. No issues in regugitation after she started on this.

My dog loves Honest Kitchen much better thank Grandma Lucy’s. I went back and forth between the two products for about a year .. with my old Whippet that passed. My new boy another Whippet, came to us as a young puppy.. he is now a year old and gets an extremely high quality dry food as well as Honest Kitchen, I fed him the remainder of what I had left in the bag of Grandma Lucy’s, he would leave it in his dish unless I mixed a lot of people food with it.. I feel that they (dogs) don’t get enough water with the dry diet. With Honest Kitchen, I add some of what we have for dinner and mix it in, add the required amount of water and serve..he loves it. .I will sometimes pop it in the microwave to heat it up as well. He is one spoiled puppy. As far as price, I bought it here for 20 dollars less than at my pet food store.. It arrived the next day.. I was totally amazed.. great product… “it’s delicious” signed Tommy the Whippet.
