I just had to say this little metronome is very easy to use and really has made a world of difference when practicing on my flute keeping correct timing/rhythym. Lots of options of variation to use depending on what i want to concentrate on when practicing, and easy to figure out different options. So happy I picked this metronome!

I gave this product all five stars to help offset the one star ratings given by folks who simply can not use a little common sense when purchasing or using a Metronome. Yes it is kind of “cheap” looking, but for around $20 shipped my expectations weren’t too high. And I wanted something that could help with me my guitar practice, not a fine piece of artwork or mechanical intricacy to display in my music room. Admittedly the instructions are not the best, but it is obvious that something must be removed to unlock the device to prevent damage during shipping in a container all the way from China. That something is a small plastic plug underneath the unit. Having been self taught on the guitar for over a decade, and in my 60’s. I was not progressing very far. So I enrolled in an Adult Education class at my local college and within two months have already passed my ability prior to enrollment. I am looking forward to the levels two, three and four that I already signed up for over the next 8 months. My instructor suggested we purchase a Metronome to help with our strumming rhythem. My particular unit was well packaged and I commend Amazon for encouraging their suppliers to utilize environmentally sound packaging. With the exception of the clear plastic film that is to be removed protecting the clear cover and the thin foam wrapping, all other packing elements were fully recyclable. On my particular unit, the “bell’ is very soft sounding and I can barely hear it over my guitar, That doesn’t concern me, as the clicking is fairly loud and I watch the swinging adjustable tempo arm as I practice transitioning from cord to cord over two or three measures per cord. So it works perfect for my needs. I would like to comment on one particular negative review. If you own a million dollar home, and a ten thousand dollar piano, why purchase a $20 accessory that is obviously not up to your own high standards of fine quality and performance? Perhaps going to a local music store and looking at higher quality units would be a better option vs purchasing an inexpensive (cheap) item, and then complaining about it. Kind of like going to Morton’s Steak House and ordering a grilled cheese sandwich and then sending it back.

This is an inexpensive, beginners wind-up metronome I bought for the digital keyboard of one of my children.

Made by an unidentified OEM manufacturer in China, it’s one of several mechanical models in the main online market in China –distinguished by a truncate pyramidal shape, and the winding key and the beats bell selector on opposite sides of the body– sold by a number of exporting sellers under different name brands. At the time of this writing, the one here is sold by Cantus, which has been selling in Amazon since 2016, rated as 91%/92%/96% positive in the last 30/90/365 days by 191 consumers.

Made of not-too-sturdy ABS hard plastic is 7.9″ [20 cm] tall; at its base is 4.7″ [11.9 cm] deep and 3.6″ [9.2 cm] wide. It has a mechanical winding mechanism whose duration depends on the chosen tempo : e.g., 46 minutes at 60 bpm (larghetto), but 12 min at 176 bpm (presto). It has a transparent protection cover we have had no difficulties in removing or snapping back. Prior to its first use, the pendulum’s protection brake at the bottom of the base must be removed. It has a user manual written in a generally clear and understandable English providing advice on how to take care of the device. It is quite easy to use : wind it up with the turning key on the right side; select the desired beat 2, 3, 4, 6, or 0 on the sliding knob on the left side; remove the cover; adjust the tempo, if needed, from 40 to 208 bpm by positioning the top edge of the sliding weight at the desired marker; and gently start the pendulum’s swinging motion. It is LOUD.

The golden-color tempo scales on the front meter plate are not etched but are only surface lettering. Some have reported that handling removes the lettering, but it is not clear to me that this would happen when taking the usual care in handling the device, as adjusting the tempo does not demand the touching of the lettering by the sliding weight or the fingers since the pendulum is not that close to the metronome’s body. This is shown in my figure, which is a superposition of two images, one with the pendulum being released from its hook on top of the body, and free in the other. Notice the non-trivial distance of the sliding weight from the device’s body.

So far it has been working with no problems. Keep in mind that though the tempo ticking is very loud –enough to produce an initial glint in the eyes of its intended user (an indication the rest of the family hopes meant surprise and not now-we’re-cooking-with-loud-music !!)– the beat bell is not that loud. Some of the gears are made of plastic, not auguring a long useful life of the device, but at the present time my daughter is quite satisfied with it.

I have played guitar for 45 years but never had a metronome. LOL But now that I am playing in public, I wanted to make sure I was keeping a steady beat. This is a great little metronome. Easy to operate and works great. I did not like the bell sound and found that if I push the upper lever on the lower right side all the way in, it stops the bell. I may use it in the future but nice to have the option to turn it off. I prefer a physical metronome to one on line.
Thanks for the great product for a very good price.

This metronome is ok. It works for what we need it to do, help our child maintain rhythm for bass guitar practice. Anything more than that it would be questionable. The chime for the beat is weak and sometimes misses the beat. Its basically a bike bell. But again works for what we need it to do. Would not recommend for a professional setting.
