Verilux HappyLight Lucent Light Therapy Lamp

I’m an experienced therapist and I’ve always suggested sunlamps to clients as I live and work in the Midwest where winter gets long. I decided to order one for my office to offer to clients to try out and it’s been massively successful. Not only do my clients benefit from the full spectrum light while they’re sitting and meeting with me, but they get to experience it before they buy it and I get some residual benefit as well! I just purchased an adjustable tablet stand to hold it and it’s great!

I also shared this setup on a therapist discussion page and it was extremely well received. Grateful this is affordable and accessible for clients and therapists with limited budgets!

MUST HAVE in winter (especially if you’re in a northern country like I am). I purchased this light to support healthy sleep hygiene and I noticed a difference in my quality of sleep by sitting with the light in the morning when I wake up. The difference was noticeable within the first days of use, and only progressed the more I used it. It’s become a sort of medical device that not only supports my mental health; this wonderful happy light has proven to also support my pain management, as the improved quality of rest results in stronger tolerance for pain.

That said, I would like to share my experience with the company when I had an issue with my light. I had hoped to find a way to get a new charger. The quality of the product itself is great! Just had a little bump and I reached out to the company to see what could be done to get my light therapy going again. Well, the response was expedient (excellent customer service). The company asked me to send them the details from my original purchase and they would get back to me.

Amazingly, as soon as I sent the information requested, customer service informed me that the company would be sending me a new light! I darn near cried because I wanted my light working again so badly. This is a great company that values quality of service as much as quality of product. The product is of high quality. Can’t believe the price I paid for it… almost felt like I robbed the place when it arrived after my original order.

Love this company and product so much I used my American account to send Verilux Happy Lights to loved one. It’s the kind of gift people don’t know they need until they have it and then wonder how they ever lived without it. My mom sits with her light every morning while she does her makeup (I was kind of wondering her secret to upping her makeup game).

I purchased this smaller version to be my “more mobile” back up after having great results with the version that comes on an adjustable stand, which I have right next to my treadmill, positioned close to my face while powerwalking first thing in morning. I am one who struggles with mood in winter, w/the decrease in natural sunlight in Minnesota. These lamps set my circadian rhythm and I’ve found my sleep quality has also improved, according to my wearable’s readings. I’ve been using both for 4 months, since October. I brought this smaller lamp with me on several trips, to keep consistent. Typically, the days I am working on campus, I wake and immediately use the treadmill and the larger lamp for 30 min. On my remote days, I use this smaller one while having coffee (just different routines). Both lamps are outstanding. This tool will be a permanent fixture in my daily life. i feel much more grounded and centered compared to previous winters. I also confirmed w/my eye doctor it is safe for me to use.

I grew up in Southern California and moved to Eastern Canada 6 years ago. For the past couple of years I’ve been noticing low energy and just overall sadness that would come over me in the winters and I figured it was just the crappy Quebec weather. I then started hearing about Seasonal Affective Disorder a few years back, but didn’t think that I had it. Low and behold, the sadness this year got really terrible (and I am a generally happy person), so I decided to get this light (I’ve heard about these types of lights before) just for the reason that I wanted to get better and wanted to try the light therapy method. I have a background in psychology and I am always extremely skeptical about products that are meant to help and whether the placebo effect goes into play. So I try my best to stay as objective as possible and kind of expect things to not work and then see what happens. Well, this light is incredible. The first morning that I had it, I put it on right after waking up and I gave it 20 min, but it actually annoyed me, so I figured it won’t work, but I’ll entertain the idea and give it a go at the office. Game changer. I put it on as directed at 10 or 2 at the proper distance from the face for 30 min and actually found it really, very pleasant (but fyi, it is very bright). I then turned it off, and a funny thing started to happen, I started to miss it being on!! I was very surprised. When I put it back on, it was overly stimulating at the 10 or 2 position, but I really wanted it on, so I put it behind me (a foot behind me at about an 8 or 4 position if looking at a clock and 12 being my computer screen). It was amazing. I left it on for 6-8 hours and I couldn’t go without it for a week. Now I use it when I feel I need it, so maybe 2-3 hours some days, some more, some not at all. We have had very little sunshine this winter and I recommend to anyone that is even remotely entertaining the thought to try a lamp like this to not even hesitate. It’s amazing!!! And this one is the size of a tablet, so it fits anywhere and very light to carry, not flimsy or fragile at all, well built.

So I’m from a place down south where the prospect of snow is a 50/50 chance of just not happening during the winter. And the winters were short. Then I moved to Quebec and WHAM, snow. For like 6 months. Getting dark before 5pm? I apparently can’t handle it. It was recommended that I get one of these lights. I liked this particular light due to the price and the style. It looks like a tablet and it’s simple. I couldn’t wait to receive it.

I haven’t owned it more than a week or two, but I’m enjoying it so far. It’s extremely bright, do not look at it head on or you WILL get a headache. But I use it in the mornings and in the late afternoon, to try and simulate the brighter light I would have if I didn’t live in a snowy region. I do feel less anxious overall. I will come back and update this after using it for the bulk of the winter.

This light is a great way to get through long winters with minimal sunlight for motivation. I’ll plug it in and work on my housework and it tricks me into thinking it’s a beautiful sunny day. Very bright.
