I’ve had this projector for a little over a year, with almost 350 hours of use (according to the lamp life settings).

I use it solely to watch video through the latest version of a fire stick. Having onboard usb power is great as it means I only have one power cable attached to it. I use it on a 100″ screen and get full coverage on the screen. I use the audio of plug to connect to my stereo, as the built in speaker is OK at best.

Pros: on board usb, speaker, very bright in my room. Easily watch films during the day with the blinds open (although we tend to black out the room for the best experience)

Cons: there is a lot of light spillage around the screen. I don’t notice it when watching anything, but you can see it when you first start it up. And the HD issue.

HD issue… so I plugged in my sky box and got the high pitch squeal others have mentioned when watching an HD channel. Didn’t matter what I do it won’t go away. However! Watching full HD through Plex media server works great. I’m not sure where the problem lies, but direct source HD seems to be a problem, but streamed HD is fine.

Overall, I would recommend this projector (even if it is £120 more than what I paid a year ago – wait until its mid £500s). Just watch your HD source.

I’ve never had a problem with the remote, keystone correction, or zooming/focus.

4 stars, as I can’t watch Sky HD, but streaming is fine.

Review for ViewSonic PG706HD Full HD.

Overall I was disappointed with this projector.

    Pros –
it’s nice and bright and has good colour, both when on full lamp setting.
It’s quite quiet even when on full lamp power.

    Cons –
It feels poorly made and constructed.
Despite the spec stating the projector would throw 120 inches at 4 metres, I mounted the screen at 4.4 metres and could only get the screen to display at a maximum size of 104 inches!
When you zoom the screen out to its maximum size with the turn wheel, it is then impossible to focus the screen to match.
The horizontal keystone does not function on this unit, despite the keys being on the remote.
There is a HORRIBLE light overlay around the physical display area. This is so irritating and seems very poor that the screen just doesn’t project to its entire light emitting area. This is not just the keystoned area, this is a full banner of unused light around the entire projected area.
The unit REALLY struggles with any high motion footage which pretty much rules this out for sport.

    Overall.
I wouldn’t recommend this projector, particularly as there are far better projectors available for a similar price.

I had ViewSonic projectors before and they were great. This one however is really not worth the money.

Picture quality is good, but very much darker than you’d expect. My previous ViewSonic, 4000 lumens, was bright enough to still see in a sunny church hall with 10 large south-facing windows. This one is just about bright enough to see in a dim room – about the same as the 10 year old Epson it replaced, which had only 3000 lumens.

However, the biggest problem is that you can’t use the projector for video, and plug the sound in any sort of sound system. It works if you use the built-in speakers, but otherwise, the moment you plug the HDMI cable in, it starts a very loud squeal. Some sort of feedback – you get it even just holding the HDMI cable in your hand and touching the laptop or the sound mixer. None of the suggestions on the ViewSonic website work, and judging by how many people have asked them the same question, it seems to be a very common problem. You can change cables, plug everything in a battery backup, whatever – the squeal doesn’t stop.
So, it’s a middling projector for powerpoint, but completely useless for video – unless you want to listen to it through the tinny built-in speakers.

Work 3 years then fan motor blew. The one before that was also view sonic and lasted 7 years. Quality is decreasing.

This projector works great, I only have one issue with it: the PJlink implementation does not match the standard. All responses come back lowercase,. Which many PJlink controllers don’t support. I have submitted patches to some of the open source controllers, but not all of them have accepted them yet.

The projector arrived in good shape and as ordered (and at a good price). Only complaint is that it didn’t SHIP until nearly a week after initial arrival date and seller was very vague when asked about why. It took two tries to get a response that included the tracking number.
