Viking Revolution Coffee Whiskey Beard Wash & Conditioner Set

I don’t have a long shaggy beard, I keep mine around 3/8 of an inch. Despite that, I still have a hard time with what soap to use. Regular bar soap leaves it feeling weird, and I use medicated shampoo so that’s a no-go for my face.

For years I’ve had itchy, flaky, dry skin under my beard. Around once a year I’ll just shave it off to exfoliate and let the skin fully heal. So I decided to finally try a beard wash.

My first impression was that this doesn’t smell like coffee and whiskey. That being said, I do really love the smell. I can see how there are maybe notes of whiskey and coffee, but you’re not going to smell like you spilled an Irish coffee on your face.

The soap lathers up very nicely, and a little goes a long way. A pea sized drop is plenty to lather my short beard.

The conditioner is also pretty great. Normally I’ll put the conditioner on, wash my body, then rinse my beard. By that time it’s nice and soft.

I’ve used it for about two weeks now and the flakiness and itchiness of the skin under my beard is noticeably reduced. Not gone, but reduced.

At this point I’m satisfied to at least have a product specifically for my beard.

I’ve used Viking Revolution products before, and as expected this wash and conditioner work well. But read on for a large concern about the scent; I really wanted to take off two stars but I only took off one because I suspect most others won’t find it to be as much of an issue.

I’m not really very demanding of the “wash” product as I don’t have grease or dirt in my beard (maybe I should try smearing some food in just to test it?) but from what I can tell it works fine.

The conditioner is awesome – immediately after one use my beard was quite a bit softer than it has ever been.

My wife is VERY sensitive to scents, and I generally don’t like artificial ones, so most stuff I use is unscented. But I found the “coffee and whiskey” idea amusing, and while I drink neither I like the scent of both so I thought I’d try it.

My first try was before bed; I used small amounts of the wash and conditioner and did a thorough rinse over the sink with hot water. I don’t know how far the scent extended, but being in my beard and mustache I couldn’t escape it. It made it hard to fall asleep, and it was the first thing I noticed when I awoke a couple of times during the night. By the next morning it wasn’t a big deal – but when I ruffled my beard it was still obvious.

So the next time I tried using it during my morning shower. It got an extremely thorough rinsing there, and after that the smell is just faint enough that I can handle it – but I sure with I could say “I enjoyed it” or even “I didn’t notice it much” rather than “I can manage”. I am sure over time I will adjust more; as I said I almost always use unscented products so I am probably more sensitive to this than most.

I don’t think the scent would be as much of an issue if the product really smelled like coffee and whiskey. But even with that on the label, and me trying to sniff it out…I can just barely make out those smells as part of the overall scent. If they hadn’t primed me with the label, there’s no way I’d guess either smell. It’s hard to describe, but I think the closest I can come is to imagine you are in a strip mall. The closest store is a perfume shop, with a mixture of vaguely floral scents (which is not something I am fond of). Beyond that is a churro shop, slathering sugar over fried churros, which improves the mix a bit. But beyond that is a store with graffiti, and a worker is using an industrial cleaner to get it off. It’s not the closest scent, but yuk.

BTW, as long as I had the product in the shower I tried using the wash as soap and shampoo, and the conditioner as hair conditioner. Both seemed to work just fine. I have been using my wife’s products for a while to reduce shower clutter but I don’t really care for them so I’ll use this stuff for a while and report back if I notice anything new. My eyes are burning slightly right now, but that could be allergies rather than using the wash as shampoo.

I’ve had this sitting on the shelf for a while, waiting until I ran out of body wash to try it. That day is today! I used this for my hair, beard, and (as mentioned) body wash.

The smell is very nice. I wouldn’t describe it as coffee or whiskey, but then again I drink neither so maybe I’m not the best judge of the smell. I did have two other family members take a whiff and nobody could quite describe what it smells like. It’s flowery but there’s something else there, too. I just can’t put my finger on it.

In any case, all three house members really enjoyed the smell. Me personally, I’m always worried about my body wash smell not being strong enough and haven’t really found anything that would last through the day. This is definitely on the stronger side, and people will notice it when you walk by. I was told it was ‘noticeable but not overwhelming’, which is pretty much what I was after. But people with sensitive noses might find this too strong.

Me personally, I really like it. This is my first time using Viking Revolution products and I think it’s a winner.
