Brazilwood does not always result in the best bow. You may see bows made of “Pernumbuco” which is also brazilwood but is the more dense heart wood and runs from $200 to 1000s of dollars. The bow i received is beautiful. It is well balanced and has all the features described. I immediately rubbed rosin into the horse hair and tightened the bow. The bow produced a full rich tone that I hoped for. The bow is straight, the leather wrap is as expected, the frog is ebony with a mother of pearl inlay. This bow has everything that you would expect of a professional grade bow. I would buy it again.

My teacher probably thought I was a cheap-o for buying a $30 bow from Amazon instead of the $160 Brazilwood bow in the store, but I’m sure some of you sympathize with my corner cutting – given how much we already have to pay for a decent cello. Still, my teacher feels this bow is very well made and was shocked when she found out the price.
After trying the $160 Brazilwood bow side-by-side with this one for a week, I decided to stick with this one because it felt better in the hand and has a little more weight to it.
As an added bonus, if you royally screw up rehairing the bow like I did, you can shamelessly buy a new one.

I’m even less than an amateur string player (only took violin lessons for a couple summers about 22 years ago) but I could tell this bow was pretty bad. It was very bent to the right when I took it out of the box, and the horsehair had next to no grip to it – even when I put rosin on it. The hairs didn’t even feel like they had any friction to them – almost like they were plastic or something. I took a chance on a $30 bow and am sending it back for the cost of shipping. Put all $30 of your money towards something better.

I broke my right hand a few years back. The pinky bone inside of my palm that is. It’s at like a 40 degree angle and so bowing is painful at times. This bow isn’t “nose” heavy (?) I’m new to cello so I don’t know what I should call it. There isn’t too much upwards pressure on my hand when I’m bowing the lower strings. It’s much easier to hold than the bow my cello came with (basic starter cello) and it’s was better quality. With that said I’m comparing this only to the bow I already had which wasa really bad. I can tell this one is definitely worth the money I have no complaints and it’s durable.
I have a complaint about shipment though. And it’s probably not relevant to most people’s shipments. I order several things at once. One of those things being a heavy bag of cat liter. I had amazon ship all my things together…… whoever condensed my items didn’t take the effort to secure the items in my bulk package….. so there was a very good chance the bag of cat litter could had snapped or bent the bow. I was very upset when I saw it lying under the cat litter, and hoped it wasn’t bent out of wack. It doesn’t seem to have caused any damage but I’m never having amazon ship my packages in bulk ever again unless i know one might not damage the other.

My sister lost her cello bow in high school and never got a replacement one and was using one of my old violin bows. I bought this for her so she would at least have something that was meant for her instrument. Turned out to be the best buy ever! This was much better than her plastic bow the cello came with and while it may not be professional quality it was perfect for her. It gave her a better sound and had a better handling. So definitely a step up from her student bow at a cheap price. This will hold her over until she has the funds to buy herself a higher grade bow, but meanwhile she loves it. (As with any new bow make sure to rosin it up really really well. I nearly forgot that and freaked out that I had bought a bow that wouldn’t work when I realized I hadn’t added enough rosin for the bow to properly catch the strings.)

Not really knowing much about bows, and needing one to play my saw, I picked up one of these. It has worked very well for me, and holds up to the abuse of dragging over the edge of a carpentry tool. It hangs with my saw in my house, and my violin-maker friend commented on using a “good bow” for “sawing.” He goggled at me when I told him how much it cost, and said that his rosin costs more (mine sure doesn’t)

We found a beautiful cello at a thrift store when my daughter decided to switch from violin to cello, and not wanting to spend a fortune on something she might not like purchased it.
The cello was in great condition but the bow was unusable.
We purchased this as a replacement. It’s a great bow for the price. It is not perfectly balanced but is close enough that it doesn’t bother my daughter much. Turns out she has a natural talent for the cello so a more expensive instrument is in her future.
If you are looking for an inexpensive replacement that still sounds great buy this. It is not professional quality but it a great bow.

needed a starter bow to replace the ‘packaged’ bow that came with a less expensive cello I bought so I could see how the cello works (I intentionally bought a cello that needed repair). The bow was straight and a comfortable weight. Took a few minutes to get it worked up is does not come rosined up. So no rosin no sound.
