I ended up rushing my son to the hospital because the reading was 106.4, then 106.2. When we got there it was 101. I later checked everyone’s temperature versus an oral thermometer and it was a very big difference between readings. I have contacted the manufacturer and we have been told we would receive a replacement. Waiting.

We really love the Braun thermoscan, but wanted an extra in ear thermometer so we could have one up in the bedrooms and one downstairs. This is a great alternative. Its accuracy is relatively similar to the Thermoscan (see photos) and uses the same hygienic filters which is super convenient when you need to purchase more. In some ways it is better in comparison. It is backlit which really helps at night with sick children. It has several additional features like memory, age settings, and room/ambient air mode.
One small thing we miss is the storage mount that the thermoscan comes with. It’s convenient to be able to hold the filter caps together with the device. This does come with a velvet bag, which works fine, but isn’t as elegant.

I think this works OK. It reads pretty quickly, but I will say that the temperature readings are usually different from ear to ear. My child had a fever (we think?) the other day, one ear would read 99.4, the other would read 101.2 – so quite a difference. The screen is plenty bright. I think it’s fine for the money, but if you’re truly afraid of a fever, especially in an infant, you may want something more reliable.
