This VIVOSUN 8″ Bypass Pruning Shears are great for gardeners like me. They’re sharp and dependable. My only pet peeve is when you’re cutting a branch and as soon as you cut through, the lock lever is engaged by accident and you then have to unlock it. This happened quite a bit with these shears. So take a break and unlock it. I wish the large pruner lock weren’t so easy to accidentally engage. Also the color of these are kinda faded 80’s looking. But Vivosun makes some great gardening products and composters.

VIVOSUN 8″ Bypass Pruning Shears for Gardening, Heavy-Duty Garden Scissors, Ultra Sharp Pruners with 3/4 in. Cut Capacity SK5 Blades, Ergonomic Handle and Safety Lock
These pruning sheers seem well made with coated handles. The blades are sharp. The safety latch works but it’s not as smooth as I would have preferred. The handles seem more suited for a person with larger hands, especially if you’re cutting out thick branches. I used these on an out of control rose bush (so cutting out last year’s canes and miscellaneous growth that had infiltrated). My palms are about 3″ in width and canes and branches less than 0.5″ in diameter were a struggle just because in order to get the thickest part of the blades thicker branch, the handles are so far about that it becomes an unstable two handed operation. For general garden work (cutting peppers, cucumbers and small stems, branches and cutting back herbs and flowers) these worked great. They cleaned up well. Probably need to get a sheath if you don’t already have one.
For me, with the amount of work and kind of work I do in my yard and with the size of my hands, these are not the best pruners for me. But these might work well for someone with bigger hands and less out of control thicker branched plants.

I spent a day in the garden using these Vivosun 8″ bypass shears to prune holly and rhododendrons. They work beautifully. They’re sharp, cut clean, fit well in the hand, and have a satisfying sound at the finish of the cut. I would compare the design and size to my Felco #8 bypass shears.
The only issue I had was with the safety lock. It became loose almost immediately, preventing the lock from working properly. I tightened up the Philips head screw and that seemed to have resolved the problem, but it became loose again towards the end of the day. The screw was very hard to turn so I’m not sure how it keeps loosening, but I’ll keep fiddling with it because I really enjoyed using these pruners. This is the only reason I knocked off a star and would give them 4.5 if I could.
At 1/3 of the price of Felcos, you can’t go wrong with the quality and value of these bypass pruners.

Great shears for pruning around the yard. They are sharp, and I used them to cut a variety of types of branches, thin, thick, dead, live. It cut through them all. In fact, cut through branches larger than I should have been cutting with them, lol.
They are comfortable to hold onto, but not slippery. The lock is really easy to flip on and off with your thumb. It’s a good price, they seem very sturdy and are lasting well so far.

This really is a powerful pair to use in the garden, not exactly for lopping off branches, but it’ll snip through thicker twigs and thin branches.
Right now is “the lowest price in 30 days,” making it a superb value for how powerful these are. The grip is reasonably comfortable and is long enough to give good leverage.
