This USB-C docking station works ok, but it’s not great. I have two monitors that I connect to my laptop and this does the job, but there’s no audio jack on the docking station, which means I have to plug it directly into my laptop. It only has 2 display ports and 1 HDMI port, so if you have 2 HDMI cords, you’ll need an adapter or a different cable.

My biggest complaint is that my screens sometimes flicker off at random. Sometimes it’s one or the other, sometimes both. It never turns off for very long, but it’s very disconcerting when it happens. I don’t know why it does it – it seems to happen randomly (not if the cord is nudged, etc.).

Overall, it would be a decent option for travel, but I think a more robust docking station is better for long-term use.

I wanted something to plug in 2 computers and a laptop. Worked well. Pay attention to the length of the cord.

This is a fairly decent multifunctional (or rather multi-display) USB-C dock that provides quadruple-display (via 2x DP, 1x HDMI, and 1x VGA) as well as 3x USB 2.0 ports (480 Mbps), and that’s just about ALL it has; no PD charging, no Ethernet port, no 10 (or even 5) Gbps USB ports, no SD/TF reader, and no 3.5mm port. Unlike most others that include at least one other port type, this one has none of those and it’s not a true multifunctional USB-C dock in my eyes; however, what it does have is the ability to support up to 4x displays and 3 of those can be 4K@60Hz, which very few USB-C docks support at the moment.

Unlike the vast majority of docks out there, this is one of the few USB-C docks that supports quadruple monitors (albeit with some requirements/limitations, read on) via 2x DP and 1x HDMI along with a 4th display using VGA; however, VGA is limited to 1080p@60Hza although that’s the norm for just about all other docks with VGA.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t have any USB ports capable at least 10 Gbps (or even 5 Gbps for that matter) and that makes this dock a poor replacement for other docks especially if you have M.2 NVMe enclosure unless video output is the ONLY thing that matters to you of course. I personally would also like to see PD charging and a RJ45 port at least but that’s just me.

The 3x USB-A ports are rated for USB 2.0/480 Mbps only and they are ONLY good for keyboard, mouse, and other low-bandwidth or legacy device. High speed device are completely out of question for these ports unfortunately.

    ≡ Quadruple monitor
Not surprisingly, the most important feature of this dock is its ability to support 4 monitors in total; however, this is NOT without limitations or rather, STRICT REQUIREMENTS (requires DP 1.4 for 4K@120Hz or above) just like all other docks out there. Note that this is one of the VERY few docks out there that supports 4K@120Hz (or 8K@60Hz but I don’t have a monitor to test it with) and that’s absolutely fantastic.

What’s unique about this particular dock, in addition to being 8K@60Hz or 4K@144Hz-capable, is that it supports 3x 4K@60Hz or 2x 4K@60Hz with another being 4K@144Hz. I don’t have 3x 4K@60Hz monitors to test but it does work without issues with 1x monitor running at 4K@120Hz and the 2 remaining running at 4K@60Hz and 4K@30Hz (yes, an ancient one). Keep in mind that if all 4 ports are used, one of the 4K@60Hz will drop to 4K@30Hz.

So what are the limitations/requirements? Well, first of all, the DP/HDMI port requires DP 1.4 Alt mode from your USB-C; otherwise, it’s not gonna work or the max resolution/refresh rate would be lowered if only DP 1.2 is supported depending upon your existing screen resolution/refresh rate. The bottom line is that the USB-C port should have DP 1.4 Alt mode support in order to fully utilize the DP/HDMI port to its fullest (8K@60Hz or 4K@144Hz). DSC 1.2 (Display Stream Compression) is also required to for 3x 4K@60Hz to work. DSC is optional although it’s implemented in most, but NOT all, laptops out there so just double check to ensure it’s available.

    ≡ What I like
✔ Quadruple-display support with a single 8K@60Hz (or 3x 4K@60Hz or 4K@120 + 4K@60Hz) which few others support (without drivers) at the moment
✔ Reasonably cost efficient in comparison to most other 3x/4x monitor docks
✔ Nice and clean physical build and appears to be well made
    ✔ Relatively compact and portable
✔ Plug’n’Play – I was able to use it right away without issues

    ≡ What I don’t like
✘ No support for PD charging (at least 70W)
✘ No support for 20, 10, or even 5 Gbps USB ports (USB-A or USB-C)
    ✘ No support for GigE

    ≡ Value
All things considered, this is a fairly decent quadruple display USB-C docking station that’s reasonably well built and capable of quadruple monitor (or at least triple-monitor at 4K@60Hz, requiring DP 1.4/DSC 1.2) with 3x USB 2.0 ports (boo) and nothing else; no PD charging, no Ethernet port, and certainly no 5 Gbps or faster USB ports. It’s reasonably priced at $45 for what it provides and its overall build quality, features (or the lack thereof), usability, versatility, and performance.

This would undoubtedly be very useful for those that require3x 4K monitors; however, since it doesn’t really have anything else (anything useful that is), it’s not an ideal multifunctional USB-C dock for the average consumers unless (again) you have specific needs with respect to the number of high-resolution monitors and ONLY that. The lack of PD charging is perhaps the biggest downside for me along with the lack of GigE port which I often require. Your mileage might vary.

Note that this is for a very specific use case – you want more monitors for your phone or laptop, but do not want more typical dock “perks” or features like return power over USB-C or fast USB ports (for hard drives or USB drives). I’ve docked a star for the lack of USB-C charging and USB3 ports. Dock/port replicators a fraction of the price have those.

This supports up to four extra monitors (the exact specifics on resolution and number depend on your device – some laptops support only three, some phones just do one, some PCs and Macs have different numbers or resolutions, etc). One monitor is via HDMI, two via Displayport (fullsize), and one via VGA.
If you are planning or hoping to use all the monitors, make sure you have the right collection of cables and devices that support this.

There are three USB2 ports – great for mouse/keyboard, but out of date by 15 years for data transfer. Small documents or such won’t be a big deal, but copying large files or movies or such will take a long time (you’re going to max out at 15-20MB/s most likely).

Note that there is no USB-C port – for device use or for power. Most docks of this form factor have at least one that can be used to power the dock (and typically if you power the dock with a sufficient supply – 45w-100w – then it’ll also charge the phone/laptop/etc you have this connected to). This does not have that. It will only drain power – you will need a separate power cable (or if you’re using a mobile device or other with only a single USB-C port, it’s going to take that port and suck away your battery).
Because of this, using this with a mobile device will drain your battery rather quickly. It took my S23 Ultra down by about 1% battery/minute (and only could output to one monitor; but that’s a phone limitation, not due to this dock).

I used this with my HP laptop from a few years ago (8th gen I5 on Windows 11). Even one that old was able to put out signal for both external monitors I was testing (I’m not able to test it with more due to a lack of monitors and the eccentric cable selection mentioned earlier), for a total of three screens including the laptop’s built-in one. It did not require any drivers (which is a major plus over others like this that require a helper app to be installed for a third monitor) – I just went to display settings, extended the screen, and reordered them to match the physical layout. It works great. This is only feasible long-term though because the laptop has a separate AC power port.

So in short – if you have a separate AC power and you’re sure about what cables and monitors you have, then this will work great. If you need an actual dock that powers/charges your device while you use it with the external screen then this is not it.

I do particularly like that there is no driver to be installed – I’m always leery of those for security reasons.

I work with a lot of spreadsheets and documents, and having a multi-monitor setup is essential. This docking station made it so easy to expand my MacBook to two external displays via DisplayPort. It has all the other ports I need (HDMI, USB, etc.) and lets me charge my laptop at the same time. Majorly boosted my workflow.

USB-C hubs or multiport adapters come with numerous, but still limited functionality expansions. Extra USB ports and a USB power PD port are the usual options. This one interestingly skips the PD input, but offers up to 4 display outputs (and in high quality) using 3 different standards, and at a very good price too.

It has 7 output ports: 2 x DP (DisplayPort) ports, an HDMI ports, a VGA port, and 3 x USB-A 2.0 ports.

Regarding the ports, this one seems especially useful in expanding your display device outputs in two different use cases: 1) making sure you are equipped to use a variety of display devices when you take your laptop for a presentation, or 2) having the capability of using 4 monitors, and with high quality outputs. Normally, I would emphasize the first point, but the display output capability of this device is higher than what you would need for a basic presentation, such as a max of 8K@60Hz or 4K@144Hz. Of course, if you use 4 monitors at the same time, the video quality of each monitor will also go down.

It uses a single USB-C port of your computer and gives you back none as it has no USB-C output ports. So if you need more USB-C ports, this one does not help. My laptop has a single USB-C port, but 3 USB-A ports, so this would use the only USB-C port I had and offer 3 more (slow) USB-A ports on top of the ones that I already had. However, MacBook owners with a few USB-C ports and no USB-A ports might appreciate that it will give you 3 more, albeit slow, USB-A ports.

The device has a metal body and looks sturdy. Its input cable seems more rigid than other similar multiport adapters I have seen, probably to allow for a higher rate of data transfer speed for higher quality of video outputs. It is very small and lightweight, so it is also perfect for portability. The output ports are clearly marked.

Such devices usually have a USB PD (power delivery) power port as well, however, this one does not. This is not an important factor for charging in my case as my laptop already has a separate power connection and it requires more than the common 100W PD capacity anyway. However, I suspect that such PD ports might also help with powering the port connections too; without such a port, your laptop will definitely have to power the port connections as well.

Also note that not all USB-C ports offer the same abilities. To use the display outputs of this device, you have to make sure that your computer’s USB-C port supports that. In fact, for the high quality video outputs, it requires an advanced level of requirements for the USB-C port. In addition, they also mention that the number of monitors supported can also be limited for some Window laptops. Speaking of Windows, unlike other similar devices, this one clearly states that it is not compatible with any MacOS computers.

Overall, this is a good multiport adapter to expand your computer’s functionality, but make sure the expansions it offers are those that you need. For being able to use a variety of display hardware, this is golden, especially considering that it even has the old school VGA output. It is also very useful for having a high quality video output for a number of monitors at the same time. The price of $40 CAD at the time of writing also seems to be a great deal, lower than some other similar devices with a lower quality of video outputs.

The WAVLINK USB C Docking Station is a pretty good product! It is nice and compact at on 4 ¼ inches long by 1 and 1/8 inches wide. It has a nice durable cable with it. It doesn’t get too hot in use. The connections are secure and not loose.

I didn’t have an 8k output but the display ports worked at 4K 60hz, which is really nice!

I don’t understand the point of making USB 2.0 ports when the main connection is meant to go to Thunderbolt, it should just have USB 3.0 ports at least.

The other thing that I would have liked is if this also had a SD and MicroSD card slot. Then it would have covered all the basis for connections.

The media could not be loaded.

It’s small, not too heavy, space saver, very effficient and easy to use.

I needed to connect two of my dell monitors to my HP laptop and I had a DP cord so I bought this cause it has the DP port and once I connected it, it worked perfectly no problem and no troubleshooting. Great buy for me.

My wife changed offices at her school and needed a new media hub. I had a time finding this one but it is exactly what she needed. It is made of high quality material, can handle multiple types of cables, provides power to the external monitor and quickly connects all of her devices to her computer including her printer. This versatile device performs perfectly. My wife loves it.
