I prefer this very much to the electronic metronomes. This is my favorite metronome at this time. It’s simplicity of 1 switch and 1 dial make it fast to adjust and easy to use, and that is the key. Instead of futzing around with buttons to change timing signatures and BPM rates, you click the dial a notch and proceed with your next practice item.
The beat is a wood block sound, that works for me. It is louder than my electronic metronomes. Has an earpiece but I don’t use that. Has a blinking LED – I have no issue seeing that contrary to other reviews here.
I agree with everyone else that a volume control would be nice. That is the only reason I rated it 4 instead of 5.
I have other metronomes with timing signatures that make the beat louder or different sound on a specific beat but frankly, I like this better.

I have purchased a Matrix MR-600 mainly because it has the one thing that was really missing on the Wittner MT-50 — a volume control.
Here is my comparison of the two:
Advantages of Matrix MR-600 over Wittner MT-50
* Volume Control. Max volume is about the same, but the MR-600 can get quieter which is nice.
* Metronome can place a downbeat on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th beat, which can be helpful, or not.
* Has a “tuning fork” type tuning capability — and can play notes across a little more than 4 octaves, from B2b to C6#
* Tuning also has the ability to sharp up to 5 Hz (i.e. 440, 441, 442, 443, 444, 445) or similar adjustment sharp on any note for players who like to tune slightly sharp.
Advantages of Wittner MT-50 over Matrix MR-600
* The center knob on the wittner is easier to operate than the side thumbwheel design of the Matrix MR-600. Either is easy but when playing then reaching over to turn the wittner, it’s just better.
* I very much prefer the single flashing LED on the Wittner MT-50 to the strobe across 8 LED’s on the Matrix MR-600.
* I prefer the slightly smaller size of the Wittner MT-50
* The MT-50 sells for $20 on Amazon, while the MR-600 is about $35.
Matrix also makes an MR-500, that does not have the volume, strobe, and tuner and is the most direct competitor to Wittner, the same in functionality and , Also selling at $20. Between those two, I would choose the Wittner for the control knob.
I definitely like the MR-600 with volume control better than the Whittner overall, although it is more expensive. The MR-600 was my new favorite metronome and gave me several years of service until the battery connector broke off in the battery terminals, and could not be replaced without damage to the circuit board. Trying Seiko 50 next because even though I still have the wittner…I loathe the lack of a volume control. So the wittner is my back up but…trying the 50 and 70 quartz metronomes next. Wittner needs to put a volume control on their metronome.
Rocker –
This metronome is brilliant. For a really low price, it is a good, small handy size – two and a half by three and a half inches by one inch thick. It is easy to carry in your pocket and has it’s own stand even though it will stand upright without the need for this. Dialling up the click speed you want is as simple as it gets because of the dial and you can use earphones if preferred, so not to disrupt other people with your practice. The click sound is just right for practicing too and there is also a flashing red LED in case you prefer to practice only with a visual cue. You also get an ear piece with the metronome so you’ve got every thing you need. I only wish I’d bought it much earlier instead of struggling with a push button type that takes ages to change the tempo. It’s a real God-send. Wonderful.

Top quality metronome although a bit expensive. This dial metronome allows you to change the tempo on the fly. This is a huge convenience even though the numbers on the dial are a bit small. The click is reaaaaly loud and not adjustable. You may want to put a pillow over it for low volume practice. I also have the other less expensive LCD push-button metronome. This one reads out the BPM in nice big numbers but is way more of a pain to adjust tempo and defaults back to 100 BPM every time I turn it off.

This metronome is just what I needed. First, it’s a great size – small enough to carry in my pocket, my briefcase or my gig bag, yet large enough to see easily and use. I can’t stand a “beep” sound. This has a very crisp wooden block sound, which is loud enough to hear over the piano but not distracting. The earphone is a very handy option. I often use it late at night playing my dulcimer, or piano practice when others in the house are already dealing with me struggling through scales and don’t want to hear the steady ‘tock’ – often not in sync with anything! The earphone sound is appropriately quiet. Another larger and more expensive metronome I purchased for my daughter has a dial the same size as this one, but is difficult to set and nearly impossible to read. This dial is very easy to set with the large knob and very easily readable for my senior eyes. Last, I didn’t have much money for a new metronome and this one is priced right. Overall, this is a great metronome and I couldn’t be happier with my selection!

I really wanted a simple metronome to use for music practice rather than using an online metronome or a phone app. Phones and computers tend to distract me, so this is great for focused music practice. Has a 3.5mm headphone jack if you want to use it without annoying others.
I love the interface compared to a digital screen – a little knob to turn with every value visible instead of up and down buttons. It’s made out of solid material, feels nice and heavy. Also has a kickstand so you can prop it up on a table.
