ZAFRO 8000 BTU Portable AC, 4 Modes

I waited until I had this for a month. Couldn’t be happier with it. I took it out of the box and set it up in 3 minutes. There is a hose to pull out the hot air. You twist one end into the exhaust, snap that into the window slat attachment. Open the window, place the slat in and close the windo to hold it in place. Twist the other end of the hose into the attachment for the machine, snap that into the air conditioner. Turn on and in about 3 minutes, there is frosty air pouring out. No tools needed. It took me longer to write this than it did to get the machine out of the box and working. I only wanted it to cool one corner of a large room that had no central vents and was surrounded by windows. But it cools the whole room. Very pleased.

I bought a very similar, almost identical looking unit, with the same ratings for performance, however, less than half of the efficiency rating. I did not notice this until later on. I had to return this other purchase due to poor performance all around. I almost did not buy another portable unit thinking they were all the same more less. I assure you they are very different even though they look pretty much identical. I did a little more research and checked the reviews and saw that Zafro , had some very good reviews all consistently stating this unit worked very well. The Btu’s and coverage look all the same after a while, and they all say the will cool your room down quickly, this unit does exactly that while being the most efficient one I could find. I should also mention it is much quiter. It cools my room which is 15 by 20 feet in less than 15 minutes and being upward of 85 90 degrees. You can feel the air from the unit over 15 feet away blowing ice cold air on you, and I am going to tell you that’s on low fan speed! It also turns off when temperature is reached and after it cycles, it does not stay continuously running like many others and my previous one that I returned. That is a very nice feature for many obvious reasons. All I can say is don’t waste your time with others, this one is a quality machine, I hope it last a long time, on that issue I do not have personal feedback as of yet.

The unit cools well and works great when it is fully going, but makes a loud hum and bearing rattle noise during startup. Sometimes it will startup nice and quiet and smooth and other times it will not. Not sure what think of this, as returning it would very hard for me. I had to have it setup from someone else having hernias. By the way, my brother has the same unit and his does not sound like this during fan startup. I will see what happens in the future. On the fence on this one.

Update: I contacted the seller about this situation and asked if this was normal and would go away and they told to try different things to see if it would correct it. It did not and they refunded my money. Was very surprised at this. What a nice thing for the seller to do. I did watch YouTube videos to see if I could repair the fan motor itself. My brother is a AC technician and I always worked with him, I am obsessed with things that make refrigerant and cold air. I was able to get apart, and what a pain in the butt it was to get it apart, but was able to. I was able to use 30 weight synthetic oil into the bearing using a spout to get them. It quieted it right down and runs smooth now. I hope it lasts. Thank you seller for excellent customer satisfaction! I really had to work to get it to this point. I am glad it is over and now able to use it. I am still nervous to run it more than 3 hours, but cools a tiny bedroom and gets it frigid cold before that time is up.
