[3/1/2024 Edit: Still holding up perfectly.]
[9/6/2018 Edit: I purchased this back in May 2015, and it’s still holding up perfectly. I still happily use the non-Zilla brand packs of 25w halogens with ReptiSun 5.0 mini UVB bulbs. This thing is great.]
I always struggled with getting good light fixtures for my turtle, dealing with mounting them, etc. This thankfully eliminated all of that by allowing me to have one single fixture that sets right on the screen with both lamps, and it seems to work perfectly. Very convenient and seems to be more manageable for both myself and for optimizing the turtle’s basking dock.
I don’t get the Zilla branded halogen bulbs as there are cheaper alternatives, and I would say to get 25w bulbs – anything higher seems to make the fixture get too hot even if it technically supports it. I admittedly prefer to err on the side of caution with lighting temps.

I am an exotic reptile keeper/hobby breeder for going on 10 years, so I am continually testing out new products. Really liking the new line of combo/slim G9 light/heat options from Zilla. Makes my tank setups look a lot more modern and less cluttered with wires, plus these units use far less energy than standard MVB or incandescent heat bulbs.
HOWEVER, there is a bit of a learning curve figuring out which bulbs will work. As stated in my review title, the mini CHE bulb that I was planning to use for nighttime heat will NOT fit in this unit. It is designed to fit only the small G9 mini halogen bulbs, and the housing is reinforced with metal—impossible to modify. On the plus side, any standard compact fluorescent reptile UVB bulb fits perfectly (I used a 10.0 13 Watt one that I had laying around from a Thrive kit in my video).
I do wish Zilla would have included a starter set of bulbs with this unit—at least one mini halogen G9–to get buyers off on the right track and to test the unit right out of the box. Maybe in the future, sellers will put together a “bundle” option. Including bulbs would also make the unit a better value, IMO. Heat output is too low for my needs with a 25w day Blue mini halogen, so I am going to have to go back and order the 50w. I cannot comment on the longevity of the unit, because I just now set it up. Will update if there are any issues.
My photo is of the top of my Chameleon’s screen enclosure, which has a 14” x 14” square panel. As you can see, this unit is still rather large, but regardless, offers a sleeker and much lower profile than the traditional “dome” style lamps. Hope this helps!

I have owned this product for over half year and I am very happy with it. I am not sure how the other reviewers are not getting enough heat from these because I tested using a generic thermometer as well as an infrared digital thermometer and at 8 inches away, the temp was in the 83 to 86 range. At 5 or 6 inches away, I was getting over 95-100 and even higher in some areas. The bulbs I bought are straight from Amazon and are in the recommended items area for this product. This lamp is used for a painted turtle who is very healthy thanks to this product. When I upgrade my tank from the current 20g then yes, I will likely need to upgrade from this product. However, my turtle species is estimated to grow up to 4.5 or 5 inches max, so this may suffice.

Thank you for this fixture! Have used Fluker brand fixture since we got our beardie. That fixture is expensive and not well made, also very large two lights. This fixture combines heat and UVB. Its light weight, all in one and low profile too. Seems well made too! Highly recommend!

Coil light should Not be used for Sulcata tortoise unless used in an enclosure wear there is quite a bit of distance from the to light the tortoise or light is on a maximum 4 hour timer. It seems to burn the little guys eyes.
Otherwise this is a great product. I love being able to use the halogen light tho they seem to burn out rather fast if you move it around while the light is being used or if you touch it with bare hands.

I currently have a baby softshell turtle in a 29 gallon tank. Because this tupe of tank is very tall and the water level is kept low I was unsure if this would be effective enough. Its been a while now, and I can say it seems to do the trick. I am using a 5W UVB bulb and 25W mini heat bulb. So far this setup keeps a constant 75 degree water temp with a basking spot around 82 degrees about 15″ below the light. I have never actually seen this turtle bask, but its there if he wants to. I also picked up a 50W mini heat bulb just in case the 25W currently in use isnt enough in the winter when I keep the house temp a bit cooler.

Dans la description du Zilla, il mentionnait (Comprend 50 watt ampoule halogène de nuit rouge de chaleur), mais elle n’y est pas pour ma part! et au prix qu’il est mentionné, j’espérais l’obtenir!

My favorite part about this fixture is that it is compact and houses everything internally unlike other fixtures that have less aesthetically-pleasing parts sticking out the back or top. I have had it almost three months and so far it is working great. My Bearded Dragon loves to lie under this or on top of his rocks that have a heated mat underneath them. The housing does get warm to the touch. I wouldn’t say it gets hot, but it definitely gets warm. I would say to just make sure it is only touching the top of your terrarium and not anything that would be adversely effected by heat. I would definitely recommend this for its great design and functionality.

My fault for not seeing the “lamps sold separately” printed small in the corner. I was desperately looking for the proper source of lighting that my turtles need. I cant even test this product because LIGHTS ARE NOT INCLUDED. I’m not saying it’s a bad purchase, however I am saying this product is overpriced and the description was uninformative. Had I known about the light issue, I’d have maybe went a different route about my purchase. My current heat lamp fixture was less than $20 (lamp-$11, 100 watt heated light-$8). This fixture alone without lights is $30 with tax. Now I have to buy lights and wait for them to arrive. I would give it a 2-star for inconvenience, but I received it in 2 days (on a Saturday) and got excited when I saw it. Bottom line: this product should be reduced in price.

Innovative well built fixture, the low profile design made it easier to get my various tanks stacked on a display rack, something that can’t be done with the bulky dome lamps. I use these fixtures on a 12 x 18 tall live planted terrariums for dwarf and day geckos. The 25 watt mini halogen bulb provides a perfect heat gradient and basking area 4-5 inches below the source. Ordering another for 15 gallon sand boa enclosure with the 50 watt mini halogen.

seems well made and works as advertised
