this still didn’t solve my problems

Very nice device. Needed this to allow us of our DirecTV H25 receiver in our motor home which only has the setup for the older style DirectTV equipment.
Basically this device converts your setup to SWM technology so if you have the H25, HR25 or the even newer Genie devices and an older style Satellite dish you’ll be in business. You still will Not receive HD programming but your dish will allow you to use the newer receivers.
Easy hookup as well, Just do a search for this device and you should find a PDF with everything you need.
You Will need a power inserter for this particular device, the one on your current SWM setup is different. If you don’t get the correct power inserter then this device is useless.

Advertised as new. What was delivered was definitely NOT a new piece of equipment. Scratched and dented on bottom; threads on coax connectors chewed up. Hopeful it works regardless

I did a lot of reading before I was able to figure out how all the parts went together. If you are RVing, you’ll need a Power Inserter to make this work. The power inserter actually sends power back into this unit and is plugged into one of the cables and from the power inserter you plug the cable to your receiver. It doesn’t matter which receiver you plug it into as long as you match that cable to the power inlet on the splitter also. I know… confusing… do your homework. Look at all my reviews. The splitter is a Direct Tv Msplit4R1-03 that I used. If I had done more reading, I would have purchased a Two way splitter cuz that’s all I needed for my RV. This four way was recommended and I just followed the recommendation out of ignorance.

would not work on my system according to the direct tv tech on 5/23/15 hoping to be able to return this item

This worked perfectly to upgrade my old style system to a SWM capable installation and I am now supporting Genie with remote Internet connected boxes throughout my home.
I combined it with this splitter:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0045DVIP4/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_67
The splitter was probably overkill, as this is limited to 8 active tuners. Tuners is not equal to the number of cable runs required. With SWM each cable run can support multiple tuners. In the case of a Genie, a single cable run supports 5 tuners. This leaves only 3 open tuners from the 8. My old install had 3 HR21-HR24 dual tuner HDDVRs. I had to decommission two of the old tuners to enable the Genie to operate properly. With SWM enabled only a single cable is required to use both tuners on an HR24, and B-Band converters need to be removed.
Don’t listen to DirecTV when they tell you this cannot be done as a self install. There is some work involved but it is very achievable.

Had an lnb that only allowed me 4 receivers (or 1 dvr and 2 receivers) ordered this item for 50 bucks and it came with the power inverter (so don’t order one by itself) and I installed it along with Directv 8-Way Wide Band Splitter for SWM LNB adn now i can run up to 8 receivers if I want to and i only spent $75 total on the project. Would have cost me at least $200 with a Directv installer!! I’d highly recommend it!!

Arrived quickly and worked exactly as advertised.
My only complaint is that it did not come with any sort of documentation.
Fortunately I found everything needed for installation on http://www.swm8.com
I see this sort of problem all the time where the product is fine but is supplied either poor or zero documentation. Don’t they ever learn?
Took about an hour to install and configure the receivers.
