We use the burner more than planned, does exactly what it says it will efficiently and quietly. In the long run this was a great value and hopefully will continue to perform like a unit 4x the price.

This review is for the Lite-On Super AllWrite IHAS124-04-KIT 24X DVD+/-RW drive. This drive replaced a 20+ year-old DVD drive in my old Linux PC! Installation was straight forward and no problems were encountered. This drive was part of a refurb of a 20+ year-old PC. I haven’t had a chance to test the burner, but a clean install of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS from this drive was flawless. The new components were installed in my old Thermaltake tower and are as follows:
MSI B450 Pro-A Max Motherboard
AMD 3200G Processor
G.Skill RipJaw 32GB (3200) Memory (2X16)
Western Digital WD Black SN750 SE NVMe M.2 2280 500GB PCI-Express Solid State Drive

Most DVD drives do some clicking and clunking during a cold boot — your computer is set to check to see whether there’s a bootable disk in the drive, and the drive has to start and spin to check that for you. This DVD RW is almost silent at boot. A little bzzz bzzz is about all it makes. Great. When the drive spins to read or write, however, it’s pretty loud. It quiets down enough so that it doesn’t interfere too much with music played from the drive, but during recording, it stays noisy. Hardly anybody today listens to music CDs on a computer, so that’s not a big thing, and the fact that the drive is mechanically noisy while recording shouldn’t bother most users. I recommend this DVD RW.

This drive causes PC to lock and freeze on start up. Unplugged the Sata cable from back of drive and restarted PC….Fixed. Drive is junk! Installed a Asus DVD drive and I now have no problems with PC starting. Past return date so I just have to take the loss.

5 stars for the Lite-On Super AllWrite IHAS124-04, it is excellent with VLC, Media Player and burning software. Not so much with the included Nero 12 essentials as the graphics are fine but there is no sound. It’s for this reason I will not register the product with Nero. The price was quite reasonable and I’m very happy with the unit.
