Used this thing for my first build, and the instruction manual was very handy, most things were very straight forward to place and piece together. Bios screen is fairly user friendly.

The motherboard has lots of connectivity and is very easy to build in. It’s not too expensive and you get things like 3 NVMe slots. It runs very well and it boots fast when you configure it properly. The BIOS is easy to flash and the design is very good looking. Overall, it is a great motherboard.

For back ground, my son wanted to build a ‘cool’ computer for his Christmas present. We started looking and buying parts in October ’23. Everything arrived on time except the other motherboard that he originally wanted. I haven’t built a PC in 15 years so I was a little skeptical when that mobo took months to arrive and didn’t arrive until after Jan 1, ’24. when we got it, it didn’t post and had only one channel of RAM that worked. I opted to do some research separate from what he thought he wanted. I opted to ‘recommend’ he get this MSI 650 edge. He agreed and I ordered it. It arrived on time and we put everything together. what do you know, it not only worked, but is well built and appears to be running beautifully. Updated the bios immediately upon start up and had no issues. the MSI bios interface was easy to navigate, the only hitch we had was the need to use a thumb drive to pull the wifi drivers down from the web site, not a huge deal, just took a minute to do. Once it was on the network, the windows install was a breeze. overall very positive experience with the seller and the product. will see how it holds up over time.

Very happy with this motherboard. Installation was very standard with no surprises. The motherboard is black/grey will no ugly RGB. Plenty of fan headers for proper cooling. WiFi works well. BIOS has expected functionality with a decent interface.
My only complaint is the slow boot time. Not a dealbreaker.

If you want a high quality B series am5 nATX board this the one

I choose this motherboard first because of its slick black design fitting in with the aesthetic of my build. My favorite aspects of the motherboard are its helpful manual and QuickStart guide, the m.2 screws making it easy to install the drive, and its helpful leds helping me diagnose what could be wrong with my system. I needed an AMD 5 motherboard and it delivered them beyond my expectations. I especially enjoyed the search feature in the bios helping me finding setting I needed to tweak to get my pc up and running. In addition, MSI’s center software for its motherboard was very helpful for installing all the drivers making it easier on me for getting the pc up and working. The only kink of the board are its placement of usb 3.0 port where it made it awkward to fit in my system but mostly was the issue with the case and not the motherboard. Overall great and solid motherboard option for anybody needing an sleek and black stylish am5 motherboard.

Pros,
1. A decent priced B650 full ATX motherboard.
2. For it’s price it has some good features like the newest WIFI 6.0, Bluetooth 5.3, plenty of USB Type A 3.2 ports. front headers for a USB Type A and C, 2 M.2 ports, a USB Type C GEN 3.2 2×2 20 Gbit speed and plenty of space to add your GPU and two other smaller PCI-E devices.
3. Has a decent VRM, power stages are 12, 2 and 1. The mosfets are well cooled with onboard heatsinks.
4. The BIOS is pretty decent with an EZ or advanced mode for tuning and programming.
5. Has a BIOS flashback switch.
6. Unlike some people I didn’t have memory issues. I’m using BIOS version V1.3 that came with the motherboard and I was able to run a set of T-Force Z DDR5 6000 CL30 on EXPO without any issues.
7. If I wanted to upgrade to a better CPU this motherboard could handle it and AMD has a reputation of holding it’s platforms longer than Intel.
Cons to be fair,
1. Like many others have stated the boot time is horrible. I’ve read a lot of people complain about the MSI B650 motherboards having long boot times and I’ve experienced the same. I’m on BIOS V1.3, maybe a BIOS update may fix this.
2. When I went to tune my CPU in BIOS they had two different way to use PBO which is confusing. One is labeled Overclock and other is under advanced setting for overclocking. The odd thing is when you use the advanced setting they work better that the labeled Overclock setting yet don’t show up as a BIOS change when you go to save and reset. Maybe a BIOS update might fix this.
3. This a minor con, but you get what you pay for. There’s no PCI-E GEN 5 nor NVME x5.
4. Compared to Intel’s B660 motherboards the AMD B650 motherboards are expensive and you have to use DDR5, you don’t have the option for DDR4 motherboards.
All in all I’m happy with my purchase because I wanted to move to a new platform, but I didn’t have a lot of money of spend. I paired this with a Ryzen 5 7600, DDR5 6000 CL60, RX 6800(non-XT) and this motherboard for a total cost of under 550 after tax. With everything in my PC I can websurf, run light productivity apps, watch multimedia and play the newest games at 1440p or sometimes above. Sure I could of cut corners, got a cheaper motherboard and memory kit, but if I did I’d have to upgrade those two things much sooner and I really needed the extra PCI-E slots.
Update,
I recently upgraded to a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and this motherboard handles it with no problem. A little advise. If you run the 7800X3D I’d go into BIOS, set the maximum temperature to 80c under PBO and do a CPU offset of anywhere from 20 to 30 negative because this CPU in my system was running hot even using a EVGA 280mm AIO liquid cooler. Also using good thermal grease will help as well. After doing what I did my idle temperatures went from the high 40s and low 50s to the range of 42 to 45c idle so I dropped at least 7c lower on average. I chose to use Artic MX-6 which I find to be the best non-conductive thermal paste for the money.
