Lodge 6 Quart Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven Description
- YOUR GO-TO DUTCH OVEN: A flawless pairing of form and function that doesn’t quit. The Lodge Dutch Oven not only makes your kitchen look good but is an enameled cast iron classic great for preparing and serving memorable meals. Broil, braise, bake or roast your favorite meals in the oven up to 500 Degree F.
- WHAT IS PORCELAIN ENAMEL ON CAST IRON. It is glass that becomes bonded to the cast iron at high temperatures. A particulate of glass, called frit, is applied to the cast iron vessel and then baked at temperatures between 1200 and 1400° F. The glass frit melts and fuses to the cast iron, forming a bond. Porcelain enamel on cast iron is heat tolerant and impervious to water and other consumables.
- EASY TO COOK AND CLEAN: The porcelain enameled interior has a smooth finish that minimizes sticking, promotes caramelization and resists staining. Although enameled cast iron is dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water and a nylon scrub brush is recommended to keep your Dutch Oven in tip top shape
- HEAT RETENTION: The cast iron vessel has superior heat distribution and retention, evenly heating throughout both the bottom and sidewalls. The tightly fitting lid seals in moisture for scrumptious pot roast, stews or a large batch of beans. Our heat retention also reduces the amount of energy needed for cooking.
- FAMILY-OWNED. Lodge is more than just a business; it’s a family. The Lodge family founded the company in 1896, and they still own it today. From environmental responsibility to community development, their heads and hearts are rooted in America. Products made with non-toxic, PFOA & PTFE free material.

I was initially a bit concerned about ordering due to some review regarding chips on the lid finish. But, the price was right. 25% of best known brand and Lodge is well known for it’s quality. Have no fear. The fact that the enameled Lodge products are Chinese made is NO problem. This item is flawless and well packed. The color is very even. Just beautiful and more even than the photo would have you think. The lid fits perfectly, very heavy and tight. i’m totally happy with this Dutch Oven.

I bought this Dutch oven from Amazon used (like new). I was a little hesitant to buy a used item but it was significantly less expensive than the new one. I am very glad I did get it. It truly looks brand new. It must have just been an unused return or something. I receive the pot today and used it to slow simmer a soup for dinner and it was perfect. I really like the light color of the interior of the Dutch oven as it makes it easier to see how the cooking process is going. I would definitely recommend this product.

I purchased this Dutch oven when it was on sale as I’ve been wanting an enameled piece of cast iron for a while. The price was almost 50% when I bought it. It arrived as expected and was securely packaged. The color of the piece is consistent and solid throughout. My first meal prepared in it was a chicken in salsa verde dish. It was a one pot meal as I first browned the chicken breasts and then brought together the remaining ingredients on the range top before reintroducing the chicken to the oven and placing it all in the oven for 30 minutes. The Dutch oven performed as intended heating evenly and retaining warmth after removal from the oven. We weren’t quite ready to eat when cooking time was complete and the meal remained nicely heated. This piece would also have been quite attractive to have moved to a dining table for serving if we had guests. Cleanup was very easy. The rubber “clips” that keep the lid above the rim of the oven when stored is a small matter but an appreciated one as it replaces any need to store a paper towel hanging out to wick moisture away form the inside during storage. All in all, this has been a very good addition to my cast iron collection.

Let’s face it, we all want a Le Creuset but this for the price is a great bargain. Sturdy, cooks up nicely and very easy to clean. I leave it out because I love how it looks. Great blue! I expect several years of use from this.

I bought this primarily for baking sourdough a couple months ago. I’ve baked several loaves so far and it works great! I’ve also used it on the stovetop for making sauces and soups.
It holds up to high heat, cooks evenly, is easy to clean, doesn’t stain, and looks beautiful. Really impressed with the quality for the price. Highly recommend!
It’s quite heavy but that’s to be expected. I store it in the oven when not in use.

Have done a roast and baked bread and deep fried

Lodge no le pide nada a Le Creuset y cuesta la tercera parte.

The 6 quart pot and lid showed up well packaged with zero defects and the Island Spice Red color is beautiful! Like one reviewer noted, the rim of the oven and the bottom rim of the lid doesn’t have enamel, so I’ll be sure and season/oil those very small areas and store with the lid protectors. I made chili in it cooking for several hours, and it performed perfectly with no hot spots, easy cleaning, etc. So far, I absolutely love this Dutch oven!

For those of you who never have used a cast iron enamel coated dutch oven, you are missing out on a very useful and versatile part of your kitchen ‘kit’.
This one is from Lodge – one of the leading names in cast iron cookware. While made in China, immediate inspection and cleaning only showed a couple of small imperfections that won’t impact the durability and longevity of this pan.
I mentioned this is a replacement. The prior one was from a ‘no name’ brand and lasted about 10 years. We had changed color in the kitchen and because of how we store it (on the cooktop), we needed to update the color of the dutch oven as well. The ‘old’ one was put into the box that this one came in and is in the garage just in case we choose to bring it back into the kitchen!
Cast iron conducts heat extremely well. The distribution is very even – if the material is evenly spread across the bottom. It also holds heat well allowing a very slow ‘cool down’ when cooking.
This is enamel coated meaning it cleans up easily and well. A common complaint of uncoated cast iron is that it never really cleans up well. While potentially true, that is not the case with an enamel coated pan.
So what would you do with it? I have used it for krispie bars (the butter & marshmallows met great) , soups, stews, browning meat (it can go into the oven too) and even cooking bacon (sides make it hard for the splatters to escape).
We have looked at smaller (4 qt) and larger (7+ qt) but decided that for us – a 6qt one is the sweet spot. It is big enough to handle the larger cooking needs while small enough to handle and move without too much difficulty.
For those of you who have/have used enameled cast iron dutch ovens, you know what this is and already know that it is an easy 5 star rating. For those who haven’t experienced it, what are you waiting for? Lodge is affordable and works great.

This cast iron dutch oven is wonderful. I’ve always been hesitant to purchase anything cast iron due to the maintenance, but this dutch oven doesn’t take much. I purchased it initially because I’m in my #sourdoughera but have since used it for soups & other dishes. It’s heavy (cause it’s expensive, put it back) but it cooks evenly and the final product does not disappoint. Clean up is a breeze, although be prepared for some stains to remain. Anyone whose ever owned anything cast iron will tell you, that residue adds “flavor”. The blue color matches my country kitchen. Would recommend. It takes a lot to get 5 stars from this reviewer, I give it 4 stars.

This is my fist dutch oven ever and I am over 50 years old. I love the teal color, it is more blue than green. Very good quality, no chipping, heavy pot and lid. You can brown the meat on the stovetop and then place in the oven. It cooks the food evenly and thoroughly. I made a beef bourguignon stew the first time and it is now my spouse’s new favorite dish. The dutch oven locks in the flavors and everything I have made comes out so tender, not mushy like when using a crockpot. It is so easy to clean too! You do need to let it cool before washing. It says that in the instructions, but I wanted to mention it in my post. This is a must-buy for the Fall comfort-food season.
