I have an HP LaserJet that I have owned for a few years. Printed pages from it are tack-sharp, it was easy to setup, and has never had a problem. This Brother printer/scanner is none of that. The prints (and scans) are not crisp and sharp, but they’re not terrible. The setup was a little laborious and required more tech savviness than it should. The printer case, lid, access panels, etc., all feel a little flimsy, especially compared to my HP printer. That said, this Brother printer costs quite a bit less, so I think you get what you pay for. I’ve only had it for a couple of days, so I can’t comment on its durability, but I will update this review if I encounter any problems.

I bought this as an upgrade for an old monochrome laser that didn’t have copy or scan functionality, because I needed those for some government paperwork. Coming from that older, perfectly serviceable laser, I can say this newer laser’s printing is perfectly serviceable as well.

Laser printers, for those who don’t know, have a few major advantages over inkjets. The toner doesn’t dry out like inkjet cartridges will, and they’re much less expensive on a per-page basis. The downside is that they’re usually black-and-white only in the budget range, so aren’t any good for printing in colors, and don’t do pictures well in general. What they excel at is printing lots of text or paperwork quickly for not a lot of money, and if that’s your use case they do a great job.

This particular printer is a half-step up from the very cheapest of the type in that it can scan and copy. I can confirm both functions work fine. The scanning and copying is flatbed only; there is no document feeder for those functions, so if you’re routinely going to be dealing with scanning or copying large documents routinely you’ll quickly become frustrated, and should buy a model with a document feeder. If it’s only a rare task for you or you’re only copying a page or two most of the time, this is probably fine.

After all the headaches in dealing with an HP inkjet nightmare (having to SIGN IN to an account to do anything, crappy printing, their stupid ink scamming, etc.), I elected to get a B & W laser printer since I almost never print in color.

First off, holy crap. It’s big, but it’s super easy to setup. Just peel off the plastic, insert the toner cartridge and paper, then plug in and turn on. Load up the accompanying CD with the drivers and you’re ready to print in fifteen minutes or less; it’s that easy.

The scans are sharp, the printing is fast and crisp. I’ll never buy another HP. Brother is worth the value and the price, especially if you’re on a strict budget like myself. You will not be disappointed!

  4. 2-bit reviewer

I was in the market for a laser printer for some time, and this model was not only at a great price, but also includes a copier function.

Setup was interesting, there appears to be an option to set up over the network only, but it didn’t work in my case, so USB it was. I was fine with this, because it was still better than that time 5 years ago when I discovered you can’t reconfigure an Epson’s network settings without reinstalling the entire driver package.

After setting up network printing for everything including Android, this thing has been quite reliable. I’m almost afraid I’ll run out of toner because it’s a little fun to send anything from your phone to the printer.

The copier lid, printer tray, and flip-out panels are going to feel a little flimsy, especially if you’ve used something like a Canon Pixma before, but that’s about the only complaint I have.

    Rating: โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… (5/5)

I recently purchased a Brother brand printer, and it has proven to be a reliable workhorse with a few minor quirks. Here’s my detailed review:

    Setup & Connectivity: โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜†โ˜† (3/5)

The initial setup and Wi-Fi connectivity proved to be a bit challenging. Unlike some other printers that come with detailed instructions, the Brother printer’s setup process felt less intuitive. Connecting it to Wi-Fi took a few attempts and required a bit of patience. It would be immensely helpful if the setup process were more user-friendly.

    Cable Not Included: โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜† (4/5)

One notable drawback was the absence of a USB cable in the box. While many printers come with a USB cable for wired setup, this one didn’t include one. This could be an inconvenience for users who prefer a wired connection or don’t have a spare cable on hand. However, this is a minor issue as most setups nowadays are wireless.

    Performance & Print Quality: โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… (5/5)

Once I had the printer up and running, it performed admirably. Printing quality was excellent, with sharp text and vibrant colors for photos. It handled various paper sizes and types with ease, making it suitable for both everyday document printing and occasional photo printing.

    Speed & Efficiency: โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… (5/5)

The Brother printer proved to be impressively fast, particularly for its price range. It spat out pages with impressive speed and efficiency, which is a huge plus for busy households or small offices where time is of the essence.

    Reliability & Durability: โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜… (5/5)

Reliability is where this Brother printer truly shines. It consistently delivered crisp prints without paper jams or other hiccups. The build quality feels solid, suggesting that it should hold up well over time, making it a long-term investment.

    Additional Features: โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜† (4/5)

The printer comes with a range of useful features, such as automatic duplex printing, which helps save on paper costs. It also has mobile printing capabilities, allowing you to print from your smartphone or tablet. However, some users might miss the absence of a touch screen or a more intuitive control panel.

    Value for Money: โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜† (4/5)

Despite the initial setup challenges and the missing USB cable, the Brother brand printer offers excellent value for its price. Its performance, reliability, and print quality make it a strong contender in the market.

In conclusion, the Brother brand printer is a dependable workhorse that excels in performance, reliability, and print quality. While the setup process could be more user-friendly, and the absence of a USB cable was a minor inconvenience, these issues can be overcome with a bit of patience and an extra cable purchase. Once set up, this printer delivers exceptional results, making it a worthwhile investment for home or small office printing needs.

It would have been my fault to setup the wifi connect so I’m giving 5 stars overall.
