I have not been all that happy with my WIFI signal. I added a Google Mesh, had Frontier out to check my radio signals for 2.4 and 5 Ghz. They replaced my router, but I still couldn’t get more than 200mb/sec down. So, I decided to go CAT5 but needed a switch in my cable box to connect the house cables to. After using a CAT5 tester it was easy to figure out which rooms went where…plugged their respective CAT5s into the Netgear, and the rooms in question came alive. I’m now getting 500 mb/sec down in all cases, which is great for desktops. The wifi is perfectly adequate for streaming services and surfing. But, internet intensive activities are always best suited to hard connections.

Have my PC and Firestick connected to the router via this switch. Have 2 more ports (router connects to one of the five ports) for laptop, tablet, phone, etc. Excellent performance. Easy setup. Mounting holes for hanging.

Very simple to use! This switch is roughly the size of a gaming mouse or xbox controller. It allows for up to 4 devices to use the ethernet at once and is super smooth. Just plug in and play. I have had all 4 ports going at once and didn’t notice any latency or connection issues. I am now about to upgrade to the GS308 (8 port version) 10/10 would buy again.

Me pereció muy buen producto, sobre todo porque administra bien la comunicación cuando hay varios equipos conectados a la misma lÃnea de red

I tested using 1 port for output to streaming device and another port to the parent node of a 3 port Linksys mesh network.

I have two of these 5-port switches along with two of the 8-port variant G308E in my home network. I have 2 networks in the house and these switches allow me to have those networks share common cables so that I don’t need to pull more cables through the walls. For the price, these switches work well and have now for almost 3 years. But, there are some issues:
1) As others have reported the web-based interface for setting up the VLANs is confusing. Every time I go to change the configuration, which fortunately isn’t often, I have to once again figure out the correct sequence in which to change the VLAN settings to make it work
2) After significant up-time (measured in months), the web interface stops responding to connection attempts, even though the switch itself keeps working. It takes a power cycle of the switch to make it work again. I suspect there is a resource leak somewhere in the firmware code. This is a problem with both the 5 port and 8 port switches.
3) As at least one other reviewer pointed out, and I have confirmed, the web interface for managing the switch is always available on all untagged ports regardless of the VLAN assigned to that port and there is nothing you can do about it. Which is a bit of a security risk that doesn’t matter on home networks, but makes this switch unsuitable in higher security environments. Most purchasers at this price point shouldn’t care.
If you have a need to run VLANs, it is going to be hard to find a better switch at this price point, despite its minor flaws. If you don’t need VLANs, you should be looking for different switch, specifically an unmanaged switch.

We have a houseful, of electronics that require connections, and need reliable, fast response. Wired is still our method of choice – wifi is too glitchy and flaky for some of our needs so, we need switches. We have used many different brands of switches over the years, but wind up coming back to Netgear after every encounter with other brands. These little switches are small but sturdy – a perfect combo. The lights show at a glance what is working, and they are easy to install, and hold the cables securely. All electronics wear out, but the Netgear switches have lasted the best – we have at least 4 in use at all times – so it saves time AND money for us to buy switches that provide reliable, current standard connections to our multitude of devices. Very happy with these switches, we will buy the updated version when we next upgrade our systems.
