I am building fence in very rocky ground in a remote location and need to drill holes prior to setting “T” posts. I have a three foot long 1 3/8 carbide tipped rock bit to make the 19 inch deep holes with. I bought the battery powered unit first, hoping it would do the job but each batteries would only last for 4 holes… so I returned it and got the corded version and I have drilled about 80 holes with it so far. It works but gets very hot and makes me think it is going to quit. if it does I want it to quit in the first 30 days so I can get my money back. The dammed thing says right on it “made in china”.. You would think that for $1100 you could get a top end tool but I am thinking I should have purchased something else that mite be up to real work. If Dewalt really wants to make something, they should make a better hammer drill that can use batteries or be plugged in.

This is my second DeWalt Rotary hammer drill. My first one was a smaller model (1-7/8”).
I used this drill with a 2” diameter SDS MAX bit (21” long”) and a 1-1/2” SDS MAX bit (31” long) to drill rock for placement of non-explosive expansion material. I have gone through a small fortune in Bosch drill bits. This drill is a workhorse.

The reviews some people have left about the drill getting hot are funny. It’s a rotary hammer drill, of course it gets hot. If the bits are not properly lubricated before placing in the chuck, will causing friction and overheating. Follow the instructions. Use lithium grease every time you start a job and this drill won’t let you down.

This is the heaviest drill I have ever owned.. when we first got it it was super hard to fill a hole in a wall cause you had to push so hard to get it to activate. Exhausting. Now it won’t fill and hammer.. it only hammers.. drill part is broke.. only used it about 20 times in 6 months
