Smartwool Active Merino Fleece Insulated Gloves Description
- WINTER WARMTH. This Training Glove uses a nylon overlay on the palm for added durability as you hang onto your ski poles. Soft-brushed Merino and additional back-of-hand insulation give you even more comfort, warmth, and protection from the elements.
- TOUCHSCREEN COMPATIBLE. Designed so you can stay tuned into your phone or tablet when it’s cold, these gloves feature knit-in touchscreen capability on the thumb and index finger.
- MERINO SPORT. Made for warm to cool weather, this ultra lightweight hybrid fabric features engineered mesh in key areas to aid with breathability, Merino next to skin for temperature regulation and polyester for durability and faster dry times.
- WHY MERINO WOOL? Thinner and softer than regular wool, it’s easy to wear next to skin. Each fiber transports sweat away as a vapor, wicks moistures (we tested it ourselves) and regulates body temperature to keep you cool in summer and warm in winter.
- FUNCTIONAL FEATURES. Go far, feel good with thoughtful tech to keep you adventuring comfortably — back of hand is insulated and windproof for additional warmth while reflective elements improve visibility in low-light conditions.

I purchased these for my wife to wear and when my cycling gloves that I purchased didn’t do the job with the touchscreen I tried these and they work really well. I ride in mid 40’s-mid 50’s and they seem to do well.

Not sure what the intended operating temperature is for these gloves. They don’t work well in lower temperatures, and at higher temps, I’ll just opt for some thinner gloves. Basically every time I wear them, I’m uncomfortable, and it makes me angry.

I have tried out so many gloves for hiking and been disappointed so many times. Either the fingers would be too short or too long, or they just weren’t warm. These are the best fitting and feeling gloves I’ve tried in the midrange of warmth. Mine only weigh 1.9 oz which is quite good. They are only a bit heavier than the possum down gloves and much warmer and more comfortable. They aren’t enough for really cold weather and they are definitely too thick to be liners. As far as warmth, I find them to be quite warm. The only gloves I have tried that are warmer are Hestra Czones which is to be expected. Anything above 30° and the SmartWool gloves should be great. I used them wel below that and was happy.
My only con to these is the conductive finger material basically doesn’t work at all. The possum gloves do this well, but many other gloves I’ve tried do not. Still on the lookout for a pair as good as these that works on my touch screens.
