Realising this is a much cheaper way of checking water content than recommended by brake fluid manufacturers, I gave it a try. Whilst its % of water may not be wholly accurate it gave a fair reading between newly opened brake fluid and 3 year old brake fluid. Good enough for me, thanks.

Il tester per il liquido dei freni arriva in una scatola di cartone, ben protetto, insieme alla due pile ministilo (AAA) e al piccolo manuale multilingue (lingua italiana inclusa).
Questo strumento rileva la percentuale di umidità presente nell’olio dei freni. Tale valore è importante poiché la temperatura di ebollizione del liquido dei freni (compresa tra 230 e i 280°C) si abbassa drasticamente con la presenza dell’acqua (che viene assorbita dall’umidità dell’aria), per cui quando supera il 3% compromette l’efficienza dell’impianto frenante.
L’uso è semplicissimo: inserite le batterie fornite, si accende agendo sul tasto di accensione e l’unico parametro da impostare è il tipo di olio freni (lo trovate sul manuale di uso e manutenzione dell’auto) DOT3/DOT4/DOT5.1, quindi basta immergere completamente i due elettrodi metallici nel serbatoio dell’olio e lo strumento fornisce il valore % del contenuto di acqua. In base al tipo di olio, si illuminerà di verde se il valore è nella norma, di giallo se è l’olio è da cambiare e di rosso se il valore è molto alto per cui bisogna cambiarlo il prima possibile.
