Amazon Customer –
This was simple to put on and easy to remove. I drove with bikes on the back of my car across 4 states without an issue. I even forgot to take it off before taking it through a car wash, and although I would not recommend it AT ALL, it did not suffer any damage or fall off (my trunk door was damaged, though, as was the bike). This thing is seriously sturdy!

Not a thule rack or anything as fancy but definitely high up there! Fit perfectly on the car, just gotta make sure to get the top bar underneath the brake light to properly secure. Used it several times so far with no concerns. Attached my snowboard rack and it fit as well.

This bike rack is great, I have a Jeep with oversized tires (315/70r17) and this fits my spare well, it’s snug, sturdy and when strapped to the underside of my rear door doesn’t budge at all. The only thing I do beyond the 2 straps to the bottom is run a cam cinch strap through the tire carrier and around the bikes to keep the handlebars from swaying in the wind. I’ve had 3 bikes loaded on this and with the weight of the tires and the bikes the rear door still swings easily and I don’t see any deflection of the sheet metal or sagging of the hinges. It also folds almost completely flat so I can hang it on the wall when not in use. Best of all is I can still tow a trailer as it leaves the hitch free for that use. Overall a great value for a quality product.

I put this on the spare tire to my popup camper trailer. though the bottom rail did hit above the bottom of the tire, while driving with vibration and such, it slipped under. Basically, my tire was probably a bit small. I solved it by bolting a piece of 2×10 over the tire that hangs below by and extra 6 inches or so. The other issue I had is it slipping off to one side or the other. I found the straps they provide totally inadequate with much weight. they are an elastic-type strap and just can’t be tightened enough or I fear I would break them. that I solved by using two ratchet straps to either side. so, grabbing the left and right bar on top with two separate straps that ran down to the corners of the bumper. Hence, they were pulling against each other. This kept is solidly on and stable. Yes, a lot of work to get the thing to work but given that my tire was probably undersized for this rack, a reasonable solution to the dilemma. The good news is that the rack is pretty tough and handled the sizeable pressure I put on it. Rubber straps are solid and the carry trays good with decent cushion. I always put pipe insulation on the vertical bars with duck tape for extra protection.

I cannot recommend this bike rack on any level. First, the straps were made of some cheap product that left my hands and clothes covered in a coal black powder that was impossible to remove (many clothes ruined), second, one of the straps broke in two when trying to remove the bike, and 3) the rear-most position (closet to the car) had cups that did not rotate and so I could not get my commuter bike’s frame up and over the side of the cup without substantial force. In fact, last week, while trying to put my bike on the rack I had to push so hard that the rack bumped up against my car’s rear window and shattered it into a million pieces.
I contact Allen Sports several times to ask for a refund or replaced with a better-designed rack that would not risk breaking my window and they were extremely rude and refused to call me to discuss the issue.
I am so frustrated right now! I have a useless rack that is dangerous and destructive. While, the company did exchange the straps, they would not address the larger issue of the rack design that left me with a broken window minutes before heading out on a week’s vacation. I had to drive with plastic over my rear window. It was dangerous and inconvenient. While I got the window replaced, it did not resolve the issue with the rack. I am now afraid to use it.
Allen Sports could easily call me to resolve this but they have only sent curt emails saying “I am not sure what would have caused the broken rear window” when I told them repeatedly it was the design of the rack. I hesitated to write this because I wanted to give them an opportunity to address the issue, but after waiting a week for them to call me, I can only throw my hands up in frustration.
If you are a company trying to do right by your customers, you call them and address their concerns. That simple. Allen Sports doesn’t seem interested in their customers and so I cannot recommend you purchase this, or any other Allen Sports products.
Buyer beware. This is not a rack that can accommodate three bikes and is so poorly designed it risks damaging your car!

This bike rack works as advertised and is a strong value. However, the rack slid off to one side after a drive – even though straps were adhered according to the manual.
Ultimately, we repositioned supplied straps to the door sides*, – and more importantly – used a ratchet strap around the circumference of the spare tire, looping the strap around the bracket top pieces. Allen would do well to include a ratchet strap with sewn loops to assure stability.
* Attaching the supplied straps to the door sides in combination with a ratchet strap around the circumference of the tire results in the ability to open the door with bikes fully secured.

3 bikes. Heavier bikes from local retail store. First day of loading it up drove 75-80mph two hours each way, windy, on overpasses and tons of potholes. I was testing to see if bikes would come off and nope nada. 2nd day of mounting I used the bottom clips on the bottom of the rear door of fj cruiser 13 may or may not be a bad idea as all the weight is on the tire/door and not the bumper. During this trip 25-35 mph through mud/mudpuddles, and light trails…bikes held like a champ. Only modification to this product I had was threw a ratchet strap around the tire to help strengthen the bike from rotating sideways, took an extra 1 minute to do. Over all great product and does hold 2 adult 1 childs bike with ease.

Straps are too short wont tie off to bumper if you have an after market spare you need to be sure that you purchase longer straps to cover the difference
