No idea why anybody would leave a good review for this piece of crap. I literally sold my truck after installing this radio because it was so slow and outdated. They have a reset button on the face of it for a reason. It will take you 5 minutes to type an address into navigation.

A disappointing unit if you want to play CD’s with folders. It can’t read folders so if you’ve burn MP3/4 files arranged in folders you can’t navigate folders (think different albums by the same artist). Also, while it can usually displays the song title, it typically doesn’t display the correct artist. Finally, it will usually skip to the next song before it gets to the actual end of the current song, I have most of my CD collection burned to MP3/4 songs on CD’s so I can have a larger selection of music in my car. Alpine seems like they didn’t put any effort into programming the CD player. When did they go in the tank? Even my 15 year old 9820 model allows me to navigate folders. This device is disappointing.

This all applies to the Alpine unit I purchased from Cruchfield last summer, and updates may be available now to enhance it.
If it’s going into a little older Jeep, like my ’99 TJ, you will have to replace the center section of the dash; it, the dash, has a single DIN opening, where-as this unit requires a double DIN – cost for the new section is about $80 on line. Next, as in my TJ, the double DIN opening in the dash, is somewhat too low for easy nav screen viewing; one has to look too far away from the windshield while driving in order to see the nav map, which makes it a bit less safe. However, that’s not the fault of the Nav. Next, you can not nav by voice; phone? YES but not nav, BUMMER. Was easy to move contacts from phone to nav, but could not move previous destinations from prior nav, and even though I’ve tried numerous times, I still can’t do the latest Alpine nav update??? Also, I find that the nav vocal instructions usually give Next Turn or approaching destination distances to come too late or distance to destination could be off by a couple hundred feet, one way or another. Plays music CDs and movie DVDs very well. Lastly, well almost, I just can’t adjust the color (on maps) to fully and easily distinguish lakes/rivers, etc. from land mass; simply washed out colors. I think, for navigating purpose’s ONLY, the nav I had in my 2003 Toyota Matrix and 2010 Honda Insight did a better job and was far easier to learn and use. And finally, this Alpine unit is one hell of system: it does a lot, maybe too much, and you will be reading the 3 or 4 part convoluted manual forever because it’s such a complex piece of hardware/software. BUT, it does work, just not as easily as the OEM units that came with many older vehicles. Just be patient; like it or not, time and technology move pretty fast.

    PROS
    1) Looks like a it belongs to my Jeep (please note I ordered some special side panels to make it look extra nice) //
    2) Customizable screen and buttons color //
    3) Pretty easy to install with Crutchfield recommended accessories and instructions //
    4) Sound is AMAZING, a significant improvement over a regular radio //
    5) Screen looks great, not much glare, images look crisp //
    6) Excellent connectivity: clear Bluetooth voice/calls, Android Auto connects flawlessly. //
    7) Music from an USB works nicely too. //
    8) The HD Radio and SiriusXM have significantly improved compared to my Clarion 2016 radio. The Alpine gives you all the information about the band, song, logos, etc… It is great when you want to know the name of a song and it looks really nice too. It has an awesome alert option: you can tag a song you like and the radio will tell you when someone is playing it. //
    9) Navigation is effective and fast //
    10) Accepts a secondary camera, great for front or side cam. //
    11) Split screens allows you to see nav and your radio. //
    CONS
    – Only 20 presets on FM and SiriusXM, 30 would have been better //
    – I was not able to upload my Navigation favorites on this radio (I guess I will have to add them by hand, not a big deal) //
    – The radio takes a couple of seconds to start, but way faster than my previous NAV radio.
