I cook and bake extensively, all of our meals are eaten at home with food I prepare. Our old toaster was on its last leg. Purchased this Amazon Basics 2 Slice Extra Wide Slot Toaster as a replacement. Love it! Everything about this toaster exceeded my expectations.
– Very durable construction and 2 extra wide slots for thicker bread, bagels, or waffles. The black insulating material around the toaster really helps keep the sides of the toaster cooled when toasting.
– Easy to use with 6 shade settings, a bagel setting, a frozen setting, and a cancel button. Crumb tray is easy to remove.
– Does a spectacular job of toasting (Pic of a toasted slice of my homemade sourdough sandwich loaf bread attached.)
Important Before First Use: Be certain to follow the “Before First Use” instructions in the Product Manual before toasting for the first time. (Pic attached.) You need to run the toaster empty for 1 cycle on shade 6, and 2 or 3 cycles on shade 4 (I did 3) to removed any residual manufacturing residue from the inside of the toaster. (This is normal for a new toaster.) As stated in the instructions, I -did- get a bit of smoke at the start of the first shade 6 cycle, nothing in other 3 cycles. So be sure to have the toaster in a well ventilated area when doing this prep, such as by an open window, or under a stove hood that is on and venting out.
A terrific value, too. I highly recommend this product.

I’m a huge fan of the Amazon Basics brand. I exclusively purchase all my kitchen essentials from them because they are not only affordable but also of top-notch quality. The toaster I bought from them has been an absolute game changer. It’s incredibly easy to clean with a removable bottom slot for quick rinsing. This toaster doesn’t mess around when it comes to toasting – it works much faster than other toasters I’ve used. While most toasters take around 3 minutes, this one only takes 1 minute and 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Its toasting capabilities are truly exceptional, especially considering its affordable price. I highly recommend this toaster to anyone living in an apartment or small space who wants to save money while still enjoying a delicious breakfast.

When I first used it, I had to slam the lever down to get it to stay down. After a few uses, it is working better, now. I don’t know what the lighter settings are for, as I am having to use setting 5 (out of 6) to get a decent toast/color on my bagels. (I bought this toaster specifically for bagels as I have a 70-year-old toaster for toasting regular bread. It works great, but the slots are too narrow for bagels.) The nicest thing about this toaster is that it toasts the bagels so evenly. No light areas, no burned areas. It toasts uniformly across the surface of the bagel. You wouldn’t think that would be too hard to accomplish, but this is the first modern toaster I have had in many years that does such a good job in this respect.
HOWEVER, LATER… I finally got around to trying this toaster with, well, toast. That didn’t go so well. The best description I can give is that the toaster seems to be stuck in the ‘BAGEL’ mode. The toast is very well toasted on the side that faces the center heating elements while the side of the toast facing the outer heating elements is hardly toasted at all. I am going to return this toaster, and may order another one, hoping that this one I have may just be defective…

I don’t think it’s characteristic of all units, but our particular toaster stopped working after a day or two (the slider wouldn’t stay down). Refund process was very smooth. . . . Otherwise, it seemed to be a basically good design, though its light weight might suggest to some that it is less sturdy. Wide slots are a plus over our 1980s toaster!

I’ve had this toaster for about a year now. I don’t use it every single day. So far I really like it. It’s sturdy and seems like it will last several years. I like the straight forward settings and how the cancel button is lit up. I took one star off because it doesn’t toast evenly. It will toast to a golden brown on the side that faces the outer wall of the toaster. The inner walls warm the toast but doesn’t brown the toast. Even when I set the time higher it will just get it to a light gold but not really brown it.
