I bought this Amazon Basics 6-sheet cross-cut paper and credit card shredder about 9 years ago for home office use to shred paper and old cards with personal information on them, and it’s still going strong!
You can shred up to six sheets of paper at a time, and it has a slot for credit cards. (I have tried to shred 7 or 8 sheets maximum at a time before, but I don’t recommend doing that – it starts struggling a bit.)
It starts automatically, as soon as you put the paper in the slot (great for safety), and it has a manual reverse to clear any paper jams.
It can start to overheat if you’re trying to shred a thick pile of paper in one sitting, and will stop working, making you think it’s broken—but it’s not. That’s just the thermal protection kicking in. Just let it cool down for a while and resume your shredding progress later. (And, hey, don’t procrastinate like me and wait until you have a mountain of paper to shred in one go. Trust me, I’ve had to learn that lesson the hard way, multiple times over the years, ha!)
Overall, this paper shredder is very functional and durable, and I highly recommend it!

We got this shredder because we get a TON of junk mail. It’s pretty fast and gets the job done. It is a tad bit noisy bit I don’t think you’ll find one that isn’t. You can put a decent amount of paper through it without it jamming, easy to transport around the house. Very durable and easy to use! Would definitely recommend.

Got this for my gardening wife. Needed more brown fill for composting. Was on the fence because I was worried I’d burn it out. It handles all those frozen food, cereal, granola bar type boxes paper, Amazon boxes. Going great! I’d recommend.

Based on the many reviews, a very positive review on wirecutter, and of course the price, I opted for this one. The good: it does the job. It’s fairly noisy with just a sheet or two. It actually runs more quietly if you shred more sheets rather than fewer. And most importantly, it chugs along and does the job well. It ran continuously longer than rated.
But… emptying the collector creates a mess. There’s not a very good way to know how full the bin is. To empty the bin, you lift off the head off. shreds will rain down some. Second, there’s no really good way to lay the head down except upside down. I lean it against the wall where it sorta balances (I do my shredding in the garage). Don’t try to remove the shreds from the head – the cutters are very close and you can poke yourself (speaking from experience here). Third, when you emptying the bin, it’s EASY to make a mess. The shreds can and will fly around. The bin doesn’t fit nicely into a grocery bag unless it’s empty. I guess you could use a plastic bag. There’s also a nice mist of paper that will plume when you dump the shreds.
All said, the shredder works well, but the engineering on dealing with the shreds could be much improved. The impact is you should expect to have to clean up the debris when you empty the bin.

Buy. This. One.
Cost is not insane. Shreds like a champ. I cannot believe the difference in going from my old 10 page shredder to this one. Wow. Wonderful.

I just got it yesterday, so long term we’ll have to see, but it made short work of amazon box cardboard stacked 3 thick without complaining. Slightly narrow slot, but if it fits in there, it’s chewed.

Excellent and very capable shredder as described. Its compact size is practical for home office or any home. Minimal noise, no dust, excellent shredding results. Highly recommend and satisfied with this economically sensible shredder.

Got my new eight page paper shredder yesterday. Have used it and I must say this shredder is absolutely awesome. It’s compact does a great job. Noise is minimal. I went as far as using for sheets of paper, eight is not necessary, may try the eight eventually. I definitely would recommend the shredder to anyone considering to buy it. It was the newest model of the Eight page shredder. I absolutely love it, love it, love it!

It’s heavy duty. I shredded maybe 10,000 sheets of paper with this. More paper than most people will produce in a lifetime. I like the large bin, no need to empty it so often.
Just oil it once in a while and it’ll last forever.
