First Im an idiot, I thought was the total solution, and didn’t read that it didn’t heat the water…. My mistake.
I snagged this because I thought this would be a perfect solution for camping on the motorcycle. It would be an easy way for morning coffee, or a quick coffee pit stop. But its a little bit more involved since you have to have heated water.
This one little issue of hot water will probably sink the whole useability issue for me, sure if i’m at a campsite I can heat water, but if im on the road not so much.
I don’t see myself using it on a daily basis, or anything else simply because of the heat issue, if this was a total solution it would get used DAILY.
Thats why its 3 stars, and to be honest unless the water is really really hot, it almost is too fast, to push thru the coffee, and it ends up kinda weak. I think this is a great idea, and a great V1 of a product, but for me they have a ton of work to do to get it where I want this product.

I own several travel expresso makers. This one is USB powered but unheated. So you need to find hot water. There are several AC and DC hot pots you can use that are about the same size. Together, they might take up more space in your luggage than you want. However, you can get by using the hotel coffee maker as your hot pot. I don’t do that anymore because they just aren’t clean and I also like the option of making coffee when I’m on the road. But this unit will save you a trip to the local coffee shop where it’s sometimes rush hour and slow when you need it most.
This machine can make 50ml or 100ml but I’ve learned that 50ml tastes best and 100ml leaks over the top of the cup unless you detach the cup and hold the machine over the cup yourself. You can see the spill in my photos if the cup remains attached to the unit and you brew 100ml. That isn’t in the manual.
What also isn’t correct in the manual is if you are using a Pod, it is shown inserted incorrectly upside down. I haven’t used a Pod yet but the option for grounds is easy to do and the scoop doubles as a tamper.
Being USB powered is pretty nice but I don’t think the pressure is very high. It’s probably sub 18 psi. So the espresso I made is more like black coffee and doesn’t have creme.
I think this is a decent machine but there are smaller, unpowered units on the market that make better coffee for the same price. You might want to explore your options. If this one heated the water, that would be a once stop shop and preferred but it doesn’t.

Forcing hot water through ground up coffee beans is not a miracle of science and technology. It works . Does it work well? No, it doesn’t . It’s easy enough to use but the taste is something lacking in controlled quality. It holds enough water for a single individual to make espresso. Is it portable? Yes, it is portable if you’re carrying a backpack and can charge the battery. I love the way this device looks but I’m not in love with the size or performance overall.

I ordered this mostly to have a portable NS pod solution, and it does that job well. I am rarely somewhere without the means to boil water so I didn’t need one that also heats, The device is easy to use and clean, and makes espresso comparable to my countertop original line pod machine. I did find that starting with somewhat hotter water that you might normally use makes up for the cooling effect of running the water through the unit. Just off the boil (209 or so) seems to be the sweet spot. If you don’t need the more expensive heating-type portable espresso makers, this one is a solid choice at the asking price.

Overall this is not one of the better portable espresso makers I have tried. For a start, the “dosing” seems pretty weak to me; the grounds chamber is too small to hold enough to make a decently rich cup. Mine seems to leak rather more than the others I have as well. Add to it that this does not heat up the water, and what you have is a mediocre entry into the portable espresso category. Heating the water separately in a pan when you are camping, then adding to the machine inevitable causes spillage and mess. The weak cup it then produces is really not worth the effort. I don’t do capsules, so maybe it works better with those, but I am not impressed so far. So far nothing else beats my Glueckzeit for a portable espresso maker.
