Suction tube from tank was leaking air and never got it to prime. Sealed it with epoxy and ever got rid of air. Made my own suction tube with a vent to add water and vent air now everything works perfectly. Other than that great design, lots of filter and media. Easy to clean and not lose suction

I’ve head this filter for the past couple of months and I love it. At first the flow was incredibly strong but after a week it calmed down significantly but has not decreased since. I’ve cleaned and cleaned but I can’t get the original heavy flow back. The current flow is definitely acceptable for my 20 gallon long (stocked like a 50 gallon) and the filtration with the stock set up is great. The filter intake was originally too long so I had to get creative and modify the intake (potentially a reason for reduced flow), I would have liked more flexibility there but overall not bad. A lot of reviews complain a about leaks and hard to clean and I didn’t have this issue at all. After time the O rings will go out as all O rings do and then I’ll order more, but out of the box with things hand tightened it works great. Cleaning this thing is also really easy. The stop valves and quick disconnects mean you can leave the hoses in place and bring the whole canister with you. I bring mine to the bath tub and dump it out and clean the sponges there. I gave it 4/5 for the decrease in flow after a week (might be my fault) and limited adjustment on the intake. I would definitely buy again/reccomend. Especially at this price point.

Very quiet. Surprised at how quietly it runs compared to the HOB that I’d been using. Have 2 of these 55gl freshwater aquarium and haven’t had any issues

Update: after nearly 4 years of running, and yes it still works. I upgraded the inlet to connect to an undergravel filter and upgraded the outlets to be returned though a jetter. Works a lot better of filtration.

    Pros:
    Quiet
    Adaptable
    effective

    Cons:
    Time consuming to clean
hose lines can be hard to clean

    Review:
over a year now and i have two of these now. 1 on a 75 gal kio tank and the other on a 38gal tallboy tropical tank.
the kio broke the long return wand as it was made of cheap plastic. So, i replaced it with a PVC version. With the right fittings you can connect the inlet and outlet to pvc fittings (even painted ones to match your tank background (Use the correct paints)). It is super quiet i hear the bubbles over the filter.

Cleaning however is a different matter. Be prepared to spend some time on these, about 30-50 minutes per unit. Good news is you can set your maintenance schedule anywhere from every 3 weeks to 8 weeks, depending on your tank type. The filters are washable and reusable to a degree.
    Charcoal:
Don’t get the flake Charcoal and put it loosely inside, use the pellet type. Doing so will create a nightmare clean up. Use a media bag for this type. the pellet type can be loosely placed in the media basket without a bag and works just fine. Also don’t fill the basket up full with charcoal, about 1/4 to 1/3 will be fine.

I love this filter. It is so quiet and was pretty easy to set up. It did take us a bit to get it to pump. I had to adjust the height, moving it to the floor seemed to help. The first day my water was kind of cloudy but it cleared up. I’m using this for my red eared slider tank. I’m hoping cleaning it is easy when it comes time.

Now that Ive had this canister for a good while.I will tell anyone this.First of all the filter media it comes with.Is marginal do to the following. The open foam is to open to really filter more than what the intake grate will allow into the filter.Making it a basic waste of use.You will need and want some filter material that is finer.Like the rolled matt you cut to size. Then for the charcoal that is in a nice tight bag.BUT doesnt reach out to all the basket edges having a good gap allows the water to go around it.Sure it will filter more than not.BUT what good is that when you want to use the whole bastket if to have really good filtration. The thrid basket is fine how they tell you to set it up.Next is unless you place this out where it will be easy to get at.Not under the aqarium cabinet like I have it and where its not a eye sore.It is hard to work with.Short of a real pain in your yeah thats it.When it must be filled before using and try to get the intake out once you cut the hose as shown.GOOD LUCK! The other is good luck just attaching both hoses! To the intake and output lines.Since the hose is very stiff. To get it far enough to thread it onto the nut. Will make you nuts. And I hope you havent any small tiny fish or shrimp.Or the intake will suck them ether to the intake basket or into the filter canister. So install a sponge type semi open cell foam.So it wont. The other thing that was irritating. Is when run with the media it comes with. The water flow back into the tank is strong.Using the open tube I havent tryed the others spray bar could be much better however when you use better filter media like the rolled matt cut to size. The water flow is greatly reduced to now not quit enough. Before long the water flow stopped. So at this point Im not sure what to think of this setup.Less Im just not all to thrilled with it.Its a real mess to take out and place back underneth my cabinet.Thats after I jacked it up for proper clearance. And the fact is I really was excited to get this.Thinking it would deal with all my filtration wants. Now Im not so sure this will stay much longer.

This filter is constantly getting clogged and is very difficult to prime. Maybe mine is broken, because every time I clean the filter, it is impossible to prime. I have tried to clean out the filter intake to ensure it is not just clogged and it does not help. Wish I had not spent so much money on a filter that does not work.
