I ordered this as I wanted an electric kettle that didn’t use plastic. It is plastic free for the most part. However there is silicon around the filter on the spout.

At first, I loved this kettle, because it’s glass, has no plastic parts touching the water, and looks very cute. I had purchased it for these reasons, even though it cost significantly more than most other electric kettles. I also thought that it would be easy to clean inside, because the top is a separate piece and is not attached, as it is with most other kettles. (Although it turns out that the top on this kettle is rather difficult to snap on and off; and if it isn’t snapped in exactly right, it will leak onto the counter when you begin pouring the hot water and may burn you; additionally, since the top is made of metal, you have to use a hot pad to pull it off, to avoid burning your fingers.)
However, the awkward top is only a minor problem compared to the really big, major problem with this kettle. The really big problem is that it is very poorly designed for keeping it clean inside. Basically, the top opening is so tiny that there’s no way an adult hand will fit inside. So you aren’t able to wipe off any mineral residue that inevitably builds up on the bottom of the kettle. Furthermore, the company provides NO instructions about how to clean the kettle, either in the owner’s manual, or on their website. When I noticed the mineral buildup starting to happen on the metal bottom of the kettle (which is the actual heating element), I tried boiling some water mixed with a little vinegar; I also tried boiling water mixed with baking soda. But these efforts did not help much, since I was unable to get my hand in to wipe off the residue afterwards; so the mineral residue (“scale”) just stayed stuck on there, in spite of all my efforts to get it off. Finally, after about 7 months, I realized that the mineral residue or scale on the bottom had actually eaten into the metal, and it became corroded! So the kettle is no longer useable!
The most disappointing thing of all is that the company has no phone number for customer service. The only way to contact them is by email, or by using a contact form on their website. I read on their website that they guarantee the kettle for one year; if it malfunctions in any way during this time, they promise to replace it. So I tried emailing, and I also tried using the contact form on their website (which states that they will respond within 24 hours); but as yet, I have received no response whatsoever from their customer service. Disappointing when a company does not follow through on its promises. At this point, I feel like the whole thing was a waste of money, time and effort. I do not recommend this kettle.

I needed a kettle to stop getting hot water through a plastic Keurig machine…trying to reduce my toxin load. Anyway, this kettle works so great! It heats water quickly and shuts off automatically. It’s also cute to have out on the counter. I’ve gotten so many compliments.

Do not eat the chipped paint from the lid rubbing when closing it, too late to return.

After about 6 months, the paint starts chipping into the water when the lid is placed on. We tried to use it without the lid. That was a big mistake. The pot will not shut off automatically if the lid is off. It is dangerous to use between the paint chips in our drinks and the fact that we cant count on it shutting off without me standing there to manually shut it off. This kettle was a big disappointment.

I’ve owned a surprisingly large number of water heaters, most of the ones I’ve seen on Amazon have been absolute garbage. This isn’t one of them though. This look great in your kitchen, works the way it’s supposed to and overall I don’t really have anything negative to say about it. Solid buy, I’d get it again.
