It tunes, it’s easy to read and seems to be very accurate. Can’t ask for much more for building a cheaper pedal board and ever for using on a more expensive board.

This little tuner pedal gets the job done. It’s in a fairly small form factor, looks great, and has a nice large multi-color display. The display is just a little on the dim side for a fully lit room, but is very easy to see in dim conditions. It operates in the standard manner, blocking the signal while tuning, and disabling the tuner while in bypass. It comes with pre-cut grippy and Velcro backing, which is really nice, and I love that Azor includes both mounting options with all their pedals.

It’s obviously a DSP pedal, and it’s rated to draw 100mA on the seller’s page (but doesn’t list the current draw in the spec sheet). However, mine draws much more, and seems to draw a slightly different amounts of current depending on how many LEDs are lit at a given moment. Mine maxes out a bit over 180mA, with a typical draw being around 160mA. With no signal it idles at 50mA. So, just be sure to plug this into a 200mA power source, not 100mA. Sometimes typos happen, so I’m not holding this against them, and hopefully they get the page updated with the right current rating soon so customers can be sure they have an adequate power supply.

The screen is just plastic, and I could see this getting scratched up easily in a rough environment. However, this pedal is designed to the price point, so I’m also not holding this against them. It doesn’t have fancy extra features, like distinguishing between octaves, deviating from 440Hz concert pitch, etc. but it definitely gets the job done at a fair price. This pedal is currently about $33, which is a great value for a basic, no-nonsense tuner pedal.

Final Rating: 5 stars. Gets the job done well, at a very fair price. Just be sure to use a 200mA supply.

This ‘Boar’ tuner is SUPER easy to use, it’s pretty much indestructible, and it also works on stage as a a kill switch. The video shows how it works: you put it at the *beginning* of your effects chain, connect it to a power supply, and plug in your guitar.

The tuner screen is dark when it’s off, and your guitar signal goes through your pedals and into your amp as usual. When you tap the toe switch the tuner lights up, and it kills the output so nobody (not the audience, not your band mates, not you) has to listen in while you tune up. This kill-switch function is great for silencing your guitar between songs too.

The tuner circuit responds quickly, and the LED display is big and bright and easy to read. I tested its accuracy against two clip-on tuners from separate manufacturers. Its accuracy is fine for stage work or jamming, but the display isn’t as precise as other tuners I’ve used. I found that my guitar could be a tiny bit flat or sharp (although not audibly off unless you’ve got perfect pitch) while the Boar said it was in tune.

I discovered that if I tuned each string down until it was audibly flat, then tuned it up until the. Boar’s center light hit green, then gave the tuning peg it a *tiny* bit of extra upward pressure, the result sounded fine and measured on my other tuners as perfectly on pitch. It’s always a good idea to tune up to pitch, instead of tuning down to pitch, so this quickly became my SOP when using my pedal board.

The Boar has the virtues of being fast and extremely visible, it’s probably impossible to break without a hammer, and the kill-switch function is so useful on stage that it’s almost worth having its own pedal.

I really dig this tuner, because it’s totally functional and incredibly useful! Even without a perfect five stars, it’s going to live on my pedal board for a long, long time.
