Best Pet Supplies Voyager Step-in Cat Harness & Leash Combo XXXS

I give this just 3 stars, primarily due to the lack of instructions.
This harness is for my 10.5 # cat, about 9 months old, newly-adopted. The little “Setting up your harness” booklet that comes attached is a poor excuse for an instruction manual– particularly because the product shown in Step 1 does not resemble the product that I rec’d. The product shown in Step 1 is a “Y”-shaped harness. The product that I rec’d (which I presume is the latest version) is an “X”- shaped harness. The photo for the “Y”-shaped harness is easy to follow, since the two “Y” legs appear to be at the front of the pictured dog. But, for an “X”-shaped harness, there is no clue how to install it. I was unsure which direction the harness should go: I could do it either way. But, why is there no actual instruction? I looked online for videos. None exist that actually show putting it on. I took note of the photos that show the “Voyager” logo up near the chest. So, I figured: I’ll put it on so that the logo is visible up near the chest. That is apparently how it goes. But, you would never know that from the instructions. Ridiculous.

As far as the actual operation/function of the harness: my cat tolerated it immediately. He was not upset, did not seem uncomfortable, and did not try to get it off. So, success in getting him used to it.

As far as attaching it, using the plastic snaps: not really that easy. My cat did not squirm. But if you have a squirmy cat, this will be a difficult task. Given that there are no instructions on HOW to put it on, you are totally on your own. This is (once again) a failure on the part of the manufacturer for not providing any guidance. Do you put the neck part on first? Do you slip it over his head with the clip already fastened? Do you do the back part first? I have no idea — and neither do you. But, what I did: since my cat is not squirmy, I first put it around his neck and snapped it closed. Then, he starts to get a little squirmy, but I snapped one of the side snaps, then the other side snap. These were a bit more difficult to snap, due to interference with fur. That’s the way I did it. It really was not the easiest thing to do, since getting the two last snaps to snap was a bit of a struggle. A better solution would be to have a combination Velcro and snap situation. The Velcro could be used to get an initial position, then the snap could be used for final position and security. That would be my recommendation.

I don’t know how this harness compares to any others, since this is the first time I ever used a cat harness. Why it is called “Step-in Lock” I have no idea. There is no stepping in. You must snap closed all 3 snaps each time you place your cat into this harness. “Stepping in” is wishful thinking and just a sales gimmick.

There are two rings on top for attaching a leash. No instructions are provided as to which to use. (Again: a failure on the part of the manufacturer.) But, I use the attachment point that is further toward the back. This keeps any tugging from or sudden lurches from snapping the cat’s neck. I think the harness is best used when the whole harness is employed to hold the cat, rather than having a tug at the neck point.

My cat was constantly slipping his old harness (also by Voyager, but seemed to be designed for dogs) on walks and escaping the house by slipping under my sliding screen door, even with a baby gate in the way. After going through the reviews of seemingly every cat harness on Amazon, many of which seem to be primarily for dogs, I bought this one, which he hasn’t yet managed to escape after several weeks of frequent use.

The XXS harness is perfect for my cat’s 13.5–14″ chest after carefully adjusting for a close fit. It seems comfortable—after the first one or two days, he doesn’t try to get out of it, he doesn’t scratch at it, and he doesn’t run away when I put it on him. I think it may even have a slight calming effect, like a stress jacket, as he seems calmer and a little less anxious. It doesn’t seem to restrict his movements, although the weight of the two leashes I connected to give him more range does seem to throw him a little off-balance, so I’ll probably get him a more lightweight leash.

It’s important to adjust the harness to closely fit your cat; they can rotate their spines to escape if the harness is too loose. As long as you can easily fit two fingers between your cat and the harness strap, it’s not too tight.

The range of sizes is very generous and the quality is very good. However, if the cat gets spooked by loud noises and thrashes she can slip out of it, so it’s not the most secure. I appreciate the range of colors to have solid color and ones with a black border.

What an amazing product. Light weight and easy to use, moreover excellent communication and fast delivery, awesome!!!

I liked the adjustable fit. Seemed a bit complicated to get on at first but then got the hang of it. Good quality!

Finally found a harness that would fit my 4-month-old kitten (got the xxxs) and has been escape proof so far. The kitten loves hanging out outside and doesn’t mind the harness at all. It was also easy to put on and the quality seems good as well.
