This is a great everyday utility knife for cutting down boxes, opening boxes, etc. The orange part of the body is metal and gives the knife a nice weight for easy handling. Thumb studs on both sides of the knife let you open it with one hand regardless of which hand you’re holding it in. The opening action is not as smooth as you would find in a quick-opening pocket knife but it still is easy to open with one hand. The blade locks open with a liner lock. Changing the blades is easy and tool-less: just use your thumb to turn the dial near the back of the blade, and then pull the blade out the front. Slide a new blade in and repeat and the blade will get locked into place without the need of any tools. The black portion of the handle flips up to reveal a storage compartment where you can store 2 extra blades (there is even a little window in the side so you can see if you have extra blades stored inside). When the knife is folded there is a little metal nub that can still be used to cut tape, although you might just want to flip the knife out to make tape cutting easier. Overall a very nice utility knife with all the best features.

This is one of those cases where I kept using the same old tool I’d been using forever just out of habit and the moment I changed I feel like a fool. This is so much better than every standard box cutter I’ve had.

The cutter itself is really simple to use. It folds out like most folding knives do with a lock bar that slips in place until you apply pressure to the side to allow the blade to close again. This keeps it nice and in place during any use. The blade itself can be flipped to make sure you get use from both sides, and this is accomplished easily by applying forward pressure to the wheel on the blade housing when it’s locked into place. Apply pressure to turn it forward, and withdraw the blade. You can then either swap it for a new one or flip it around.

It comes with 2 extra blades which can be found in the handle storage compartment. You need just while the blade is closed, pull the black tab at the end of the handle in away from the edge and push it through the body of the handle. This opens the back flap and lets you get access to the storage and additional blades.

Overall it’s not the cheapest, but it feels good in the hand, seems well made, and I feel comfortable getting Black & Decker products overall. I’ve already cut through 80 boxes in the matter of a couple days to lay ground coverage in the garden and I’m still on the first blade; it’s worked flawlessly so far. Happy with it and would buy it again.

This folding utility knife is not the least expensive one available, but it is much nicer to use, and it has some features I really appreciate. This knife reflects thoughtful design and attention to detail.

I use a utility knife a lot, and I really prefer the folding style to the old-fashioned slide-out style, but I do sometimes miss the extra blades stored in the handle of the old-style knife.

This utility knife corrects that shortcoming by adding storage for extra blades in the handle. B&D accomplished this without adding appreciable bulk and without making the handle asymmetrical side-to-side.

A plastic cover on the spine of the handle swings out of the way to uncover storage for a couple of extra blades. There is space for at least two extra blades, and the blades are held securely in place by a spring clip, so they don’t fall out when you open the cover. It did take me a minute to understand the design of the clip and figure out how to put spare blades in place.

There is a slot cut through one side of the handle, so you can tell at a glance if you have spare blades.

The blade can be swapped without tools. There is a small knurled wheel on the top of the blade holder that you roll forward to release the blade. This is much better that the “rocker” style release I see on many of these knives, because you are less likely to accidentally release the blade when you are using the knife.

Overall “fit and finish” are very good. The knife feels hefty and sturdy and should survive a lot of use and misuse.

Its comfortable to hold and very sturdy. The blade holder in the back of the handle closes very tightly so there’s no worry of it open accidentally. Best box cutter I’ve owned so far.

I got this knife for diy home projects and crafts and to replace my old knife with sliding blade. I thought I’m going to like the folding knife design better but I came to realize that I actually prefer the sliding blade type knives. The reason for it is that the closing of this knife makes me nervous. Perhaps I need to get used to it but it is not as simple and comfortable as I thought it was going to be and doesn’t come natural to me. For the purpose of this review I also switched the blade and that was even harder to do but luckily it is not something that needs to be done often. However, having the extra blades stored in the handle is very handy and I really like that. The blades are very sharp. The knife is sturdy and heavier than I thought it would be. Overall it’s a little too heavy for my needs and I prefer a sliding blade design better but it is a good knife, so if you are looking for a foldable knife it might be right for you.

This knife has a lot of heft to it, which helps aid cutting. The included blades are sharp and it is already loaded with a few spares. Extremely easy to open and close with one hand, which many other utility knives can lack. The blade changing is super easy, effective, and intuitive. This could easily sell for $30-$40 for the quality it is.
