BUYER BEWARE: We attempted to use the Blue Ix breaking system to tow our Jeep behind our motorhome. They failed to tell you that you have to leave the vehicle in accessory mode, and my jeep is newer one and automatically shuts the car off after 30 minutes making the brakes not work. And you having to stop and turn it back on. And after three hours my battery was dead in my jeep. Call blue ox to troubleshoot, and they said yes this device does not work for all vehicles. I think that should be stated on the box! We ended up having to push a jeep into a parking spot with the dead battery, by jumping cables to restart the jeep. Then disconnect the jeep from the camper, and I had to drive 2000 miles separately following the camper.
I am sure there are ways to get around these situations by running a triple charge to your jeep. But these are things you need to know upfront. I feel blue ox, sells the item without all the full details on the side of the box.

Right out of the box this worked just fine, Bit hard to get set up, but after using it the adjustment are really finicky. It works really well and the blue tooth remove that in the motor home controls and shows what going on in the jeep, but it’s just really hard to get it set up just right. Maybe a bit more practice! Maybe some more detailed examples on how to set it up in the jeep would be helpful.

Bought this to replace our Breakbuddy system. So far, the quality and use is like night and day. I feel so much safer now, knowing that brake assist is there for not only the routine braking, but the emergency needs too..

This break unit is easy to install and use in our Towed “Toad” Wrangler. Only made on trip with it so far and that went well.

Blue Ox Patriot brake assist unit is clearly a quality unit and once installed works very well. I am especially impressed with the smooth braking. Set unit, for first run, at “3” – too light – moved to “4” and we’re good to go. Penetrating the firewall was dicey and I spent several hours finding and drilling a 1/2″ hole and adding a rubber groment. Working under the dash was VERY tight – you need to remove hood hinge and finish panel on a 2011 Frod Ranger. I’m probably a good shade tree mechanic and for me tight quarters was the biggest problem.

Should have read the instructions first. Routing the breakaway switch wiring was the hard part, which was very easy. The only issue I had was the unit going offline when I hit a really bad expansion joint on the interstate, had to stop and reset it even though the actuator hadn’t moved.

I had a Roadmaster Even brake that failed after 5 years. I was going to buy another Even brake but, decided to try a blue ox patriot brake. This was so much lighter, and a lot easier to set up than the even brake. Most of all I can put the remote monitor in the dash of my 34 feet motor home. The Roadmaster remote monitor, I have to leave it at the back of my MH because it would not communicate with the even brake in the towed vehicle.
I would have rated it 5 star but I only has 1 time use.
