We have a UPS store and we average at least 200 pages fax a day grear machine

This was a replacement of the previous version of this machine. The problem with the old one is that after several years of office use, in an office with about 8 people, it recorded a problem that could not be cleared which may have been related to the drum, but it was unclear from talking to Brother’s tech support. What was clear is that for a little more than the cost of replacing the drum, which might not have solved the problem, we could replace the whole machine.
In the interim, we tried using an HP professional all in one printer, color copier and color fax (model L7780). That was a nightmare, as it was slow and had one of the worst paper feeders on the scanner that I have ever seen.
What a relief to get this Brother 4100e fax machine back. It is way faster, feeds paper well, and never jams. It was easy to set up and works great!

It works well and the squeek is getting better. It makes noise when the last page is fed through the feeder. It makes less noise the more pages being faxed at once. If only faxing one page it has an annoying squeek. It doesn’t affect it’s performance and I am no longer getting communication errors I was getting with my old machine. I would recommend this fax machine.

This does not allow for the paper to come out so when copying, one can turn the paper around and place it back on the printer side so the copy can be finished on both sides. It was my issue as I didn’t read the specifications as well as I should have. I had another Brother that lasted 15 years. This one so far seems to be good and sturdy and it is user friendly as well

Had it for two weeks, no problem at all.
Crisp images, just like my five previous Brother products.
PIERRE FORTIER –
Very good products

We were replacing an old fax machine that had worn out. I wanted something that I could pre-scan a lot of pages then set a time to send the fax. The previous machine I had did this seamlessly. You can do the same with this machine, but it requires several menu options you use each and every time. I created a cheat sheet so you could do what I want. This machine has a lot of options, but unless you have the owners manual, I’d say it’s not real user friendly.

Apparently there is NO way to disable “Sleep Mode”. You can set the timer to 99 minutes, but after that, you’re back to round one again. It goes into sleep mode to save power, but they apparently have an issue with waking up. There is a generic answer found by searching the web, but once you set it the way they tell you, it still doesn’t work. I miss faxes constantly. The only way to get the machine to work when it enters sleep mode, is to pull the power plug and reset it. Not much use if you are not available to do so upon receiving a fax.
It works well when it works, and the copier is a nice function, but overall, the sleep mode ruins it when it comes to sending and receiving faxes.
UPDATE 8.29.13
The sleep mode is the killer on this thing. I have discovered another issue with it. You have to go into maintenance mode and set the baud rate down to 9600 in order to get it to work on VOIP. Otherwise it will screw the packets all up and your faxes will fail. I have only used VOIP with it, and I have a LOT of trouble with it.
UPDATE 9.18.13
I have concluded that this fax machine is the biggest turd I have ever seen, and I have dumped my review all the way down to one single star. I would give it no stars if the option were available. I am lucky to get a fax to go out once in a hundred tries. I consistently get “Poor Line Condition” back on my report. It simply won’t send anything much more than one page at a time. I am going to sell the damn thing and buy a scanner and send my faxes via a fax service. This Brother fax machine is ridiculous. I don’t have time to stand over it for 4 hours just to get a page or two to go through.
Buy it at your own risk. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

I purchased the 4100e nearly three months ago for my business, and I can’t think of one bad thing to say about it except for the delay in printing when it’s waking from sleep. I have an HP 2300 printer attached to my home computer and I’d gotten used to a quick response time when submitting a print job. I use the print, fax, and copy functions and I’m extremely pleased with the resolution and quality of each. If you need a heavy duty copier, then, well, I guess you wouldn’t be looking at this machine, but it suits my needs for a fax machine, printer, and occasional copier for jobs numbering 10-15 pages each.

I have just purchased my second one of these, after owning an identical model for the last six years. The old machine is still functioning, but is clearly getting ready to retire soon. I was delighted to see that this model is still being made by Brother, and did not hesitate to purchase another.
The old machine has printed literally thousands upon thousands (very possibly hundreds of thousands) of great quality pages, being used everyday in a busy office environment. The quality of print is very consistent. It has also been used extensively as a fax machine, with zero problems. The punishment that this machine can take is quite amazing, and I love the way that it hooks up easily to my PC via USB.
I absolutely would not hesitate to recommend this product. Very easily five stars.

We replaced an 8 year old “monster” fax that we were leasing. With technology where it is today, our faxing needs have diminished. Our company mainly uses on board faxing with leased copy machines, but we can’t tie up our copiers for faxing with the volume that we copy/print on that unit. This has been a great stand alone unit for the minimal faxing that we do. Easy to setup and use, it took longer to get it out of the box than it did to get it functional. Setup is intuitive and easy to do as well. I referenced the manual maybe once. Totally satisfied with this purchase.
